William S. Wheeler

William S. "Bill" Wheeler, 86, a resident of Benton, died Monday, March 22, 2010, at the Saline Memorial Hospital in Bryant. He was born February 27, 1924, at Stillwater, Oklahoma to William E. and Grace Sherrard Wheeler. He was retired from the Pine Bluff Commercial; was a United States Air Force veteran of WWII and the Korean War; was a past president of the Pine Bluff Lions Club; was a past president of Dark Forrest Condominium Association; was a member of the Rosswood Country Club and Longhills Golf Club Men's Association; and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Benton. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 53 years, Wanda Lee Jackson Wheeler; a son, Rodney Wheeler; a brother; a sister; and his step-father, Sydney Ramsey. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Karen Wheeler of Little Rock; a daughter, Alicia Wheeler of Benton; a sister, Lorraine Jenkins of San Angelo, Texas; and two grandchildren, Aaron and Casey Wheeler, both of Little Rock. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 28, 2010, at the First Presbyterian Church in Benton with the Rev. Dari Rowan officiating. The burial will be private at Oakland Cemetery at Russellville under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 501 South East Street, Benton, Arkansas 72015-4317 or the Longhills Junior Golf Program, 327 Highway 5 North, Benton, Arkansas 72019-8554.
