William Wirth Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Goldfinch Funeral Home - Beach Chapel - Murrells Inlet on Feb. 16, 2026.
William Walter Wirth, age 84, a beloved father, grandfather, and great grandfather of 5 and a friend to many, passed away on February 6, 2026, peacefully at his cherished home in Myrtle Beach, SC. Born on September 23, 1941 in Elizabeth, NJ, William's life was a testament to hard work, service and patriotism.

William was a natural born leader who served in the U.S. Navy with great pride. After the Navy, he served as a corrections officer in Rahway State Prison and ADTC in Avenel, New Jersey. In this role he worked his way up to Sergeant and was greatly admired and respected in his community. His tenure there lasted 23 years, where he was a guide and friend to many who remember him fondly for his gracious leadership and sense of humor. He was also a lifelong member of the American Legion and VFW where he was honored as a Past Vice Commander and Past Chaplain. Once retired, he remained an active member of his community helping out at the prison.

Upon moving to Myrtle Beach, SC, his ability to network, lead and inspire laughter continued as he became involved with his HOA, serving as President for many years and continued to work in his new community. He spent his last 11 years at Enterprise in Myrtle Beach Airport, sharing laughter, guidance and caring for cars. He loved cars, landscaping, long drives, his country and most of all being a provider and protector to his family.

William is preceded in death by his parents, George T. Wirth and Esther Young, and his son, Billy Wirth Jr.

William is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 43 years, Carol, Caroline J. Wirth and his two daughters, Catherine Wirth-Palmieri and Gabrielle Selene Wirth. He was also a beloved father-in-law to Joe Palmieri and his 2 grandchildren, Crystal and Brian will miss him dearly. His memory will live on through his family whose lives have been so touched by his dedication and support.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, May 30, 2026 at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel with reception to follow.
