William Jiles "Bud" Wright

On July 3rd, 2025, the world lost one of its brightest lights, William Jiles Wright, 73, passed away peacefully in Kerrville, Texas, leaving behind a lifetime of memories, laughter, and love that will continue to echo through those who knew him. William was born on July 27, 1951, in Pasadena, Texas, and carried that unmistakable Lone Star charm with him his entire life - quick with a laugh, loyal to the bone, and never without a joke (or five). He had a sharp wit, a huge heart, and a love of life that was as big as his appetite - especially for good food, whether it was barbecue, Tex-Mex, burgers, or one of his favorite home-cooked meals shared around the table.

He proudly served his country in the Vietnam War as a helicopter door gunner, demonstrating extraordinary courage in one of the most dangerous roles in the conflict. He brought that same strength and sense of duty home with him and channeled it into a life well lived - full of joy, music, stories, and, most of all, love. William was a man who knew how to enjoy the good things in life: baseball, motorcycles, music, his backyard, and above all, family.

As a father, William was nothing short of fantastic. He was a steady presence - always there with encouragement, a listening ear, and the kind of unconditional love that made his children feel truly supported and valued. Whether coaching little league, sharing stories, or just being present, he took pride in guiding Kevin, Sam, Paul, and Sarah with wisdom and warmth. His legacy lives on through the strength and kindness of his children.

He is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Susan, who was his best friend and partner in every sense of the word. He also leaves behind his four children; Kevin, Sam, Paul, and Sarah and his namesake and beloved grandson, William J, who lit up his world like no one else could.

William was preceded in death by his parents, Hollie and William Wesley Wright; his two sisters, Nance and Vic; and his eldest daughter, Wendy, whom he never stopped missing and loving.

A lifelong learner, William had a brilliant mind and a deep curiosity about the world. He was an avid reader, with bookshelves full of everything from history and politics to biographies and classic literature. He had an incredible memory and a sharp intellect that made him nearly unbeatable at Jeopardy! - shouting out answers faster than the contestants on TV and rarely getting one wrong. His knowledge wasn't just impressive - it made conversations with him engaging, thoughtful, and unforgettable. William had a gift for making people feel good. His sense of humor wasn't just clever - it was comforting. He had a way of putting people at ease, making them feel seen, and leaving them a little lighter than when he found them. His laughter was infectious, his presence steady, and his ability to brighten a room unmatched.

A private service will be held to honor his life and legacy. The family appreciates your love and support during this time.
