Mr. William Eddie Eddy Wright of
Fisher, Arkansas was born on February 10, 1956 and departed this life on January 1, 2026 at the age of 69. Eddy was the son of the late Clyde and Evelyn Faye Wright of
Weiner, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his Father, Clyde Wright and his nephew, Austin Davis.
He was a 1974 graduate of Weiner High School and spent his entire working life farming near Weiner, a profession he was proud of and the only job he ever had, retiring from farming in 2018.
Racing was a defining part of Eddy's life from a young age. At just 16 years old, he took over Wright Racing, the family drag racing operation. At the time, racing rules required that if a driver won two races in a row, the driver moved up a class. Clyde has won one race and decided to put Eddy in as driver for the next week's race. Eddy won ~much to Clyde's frustration~ because it meant they had to move up classes anyway. That moment marked the beginning of a lifelong racing legacy.
Around the age of 25, Eddy and his best friend, Powell Senteney, transitioned into dirt track racing. Wright Racing became well known and grew into a family tradition that spanned decades, continuing until 2023.
In the 1990s, Eddy and his brother briefly turned their attention to jet boats, purchasing two ~ one for Saturday and one for Sunday ~ because they broke down so often. Eventually, they put all their efforts back into drag racing, reasoning that at least racing offered a chance to win some money, something boating never quite did.
Eddy also loved deer hunting and often amused his friends with photos of his deer taken after dark, leaving everyone to wonder exactly what time the deer was killed.
The family would like to express their deep love and appreciation to Vicki Bornhoft and her family of Lonoke, Arkansas for the exceptional care they provided Eddy in recent times. Their friendship spanned many years, and the kindness, support, and devotion shown to Eddy will never be forgotten.
Eddy will be remembered for his competitive spirit, sharp sense of humor, strong work ethic, and deep love for racing, farming, hunting, and family.
He is survived by his Mother, Evelyn Faye Wright of
Weiner, Arkansas, his son, Kelby Evans Wright and wife, Somer, of Hickory Ridge, Arkansas, his daughter, Erica Wright Sockwell of Jonesboro, Arkansas, one granddaughter, Haley Sockwell, his sister, Cindy Renee Davis and husband Keith of Batesville, Arkansas, his younger brother, Randy Lynn Wright of
Weiner, Arkansas, his nephews: Isaac Davis and wife, Meagan of Oil Trough, Arkansas, and Cameron Wright of
Weiner, Arkansas, along with many other family members and friends who will cherish his memory.
