Willie Blair Bass

Mr. Willie Blair Bass, the son of the late Mr. Howard Samuel Bass and Mrs. Luthennie Hayes Bass, was born on January 26, 1937, in Person County, North Carolina. The eldest of three children, Willie peacefully departed this life on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at Duke Hospital in Durham, North Carolina, following a brief illness.
At a young age, Willie dedicated his life to Christ, joining Siloam Missionary Baptist Church. He later transferred his membership to Martin's Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, where he served faithfully for many years.
Willie graduated from Person County High School, Roxboro, NC, Class of 1955. After graduation, he met Margie Miles of Pleasant Grove community and was immediately drawn to her graceful and pleasant personality. Several months later, Willie joined the U.S. Army. Following his tour of duty in France, he returned to North Carolina and married the love of his life, Margie.
Soon after their marriage, Willie and Margie moved to Washington, D.C. To their union, one son was born - Kimbreck Willie Bass.
Willie was employed with the Washington Gas and Light Company for three decades. Upon his retirement in January 1999, he and Margie relocated to Alamance County, North Carolina.
Willie considered family and friends among life's greatest blessings. He cherished frequent visits with loved ones and enjoyed spending time together. Known for his love of "cool, slick, clean" cars, he always drove an immaculate vehicle. A "Tech-Savvy", Willie was the family's go-to person for help with electronics, computers, and cell phones. And a true jack of all trades, he could build, create, and repair almost anything.
Willie was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Denise M. Fox Bass; his sister, Rosa Odella Bass Harris; his brother, Winslow Samuel Bass; and his brothers-in-law, Luster M. Harris; J. Edgar Miles; Charlie S. Pinnix; Lloyd L. Pinnix; and sisters-in-law Irene Pinnix and Marie Murray.
He leaves to cherish his memory a devoted wife, Margie Miles Bass; his loving son, Kimbreck Willie Bass of Waldorf, MD; in-laws Lucille Bass, Pearline Pinnix, Bernice and Luther Pinnix, and Anne Miles McBride; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever treasure his memory.
