I stand tall on the shoulders of a giant: Elder Will Bennett

Pastor Canada

October 7, 2023

As the anniversary of Elder Will Bennett rapidly approaches, I am reminded of a conversation he and I once had in his office at the church. He was asking me to join him in ministry to grow the church and what I found extraordinary about this man and this conversation was that he wanted to grow the church for the sake of the Kingdom of GOD, and for the community.
In a world where many churches preach and teach prosperity and materialism, I found it divinely refreshing that this pastor's only concerns were for the Kingdom of GOD and for the lost sheep.
Elder Bennett was as good as it gets in ministry because his faith was unshakeable and his commitment was complete. In his conversation, there was a certain yearning for the uplifting of the people; a certain sorrow for the state of the world and a certain determination to do something about it.
So, in remembering this GIANT of a pastor; KING of a Kingdom, I have decided to rededicate my life to service. I will return to the church and finish the work that was started and I will carry Brother Bennett with me everywhere I go in this divine purpose.
Rest well, Brother Will Bennett. We love you, admire you, and have not forgotten you.

Always happy and honored to take a few minutes to remember someone that meant so much to me and to the community and the world.
Elder Bennett was a true vessel for Christ and worked hard to live the life he proclaimed. I think about him often and pray that one day, I will measure up to be even half the minister and half the man he was.

To all the Family, and Friends far & wide of Elder Bennett, I send my condolences & prayers that the Comforter has come to you with peace! Many memories of this soft spoken man who loved God & had loving spirit. I had the joy of traveling with for a short while in his ministries. St John 14:1-4 1)Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. 2)In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3)And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. 4)And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know
Rev. Bennett I see you at the House!

When Jesus was on the cross, he questioned GOD: "Father, why have thou forsaketh me?" I am a man that knows GOD and have every faith in HIS wisdom, yet when the news cam to me that Elder Will Bennett had left us, my first impulse, like Jesus, was to question GOD: "Why would you take such a kind, loving, gentle and faithful man?"
The answer was obvious. GOD called Brother Bennett HOME because his assignment here had been completed. No man knows the hour of his departure aforehand, but all of us must understand that we are created with a devine purpose and when that purpose is completed, we are called home.
Elder Bennett was a dear friend and there are many wonderful things I could say about him, but if I had to choose one thing to sum it all up, I would say that he was as real as real gets. He was a real man; a real husband; a real father...and definitely a real Man of GOD.
His faith was unshakable and his mission was non-waivering. Elder Bennett was a quiet, humble gentleman, but he wasn't "walking" GOD's path, he was "RUNNING". The Lord came first and foremost in Elder's life and the evidence of his love for GOD and commitment to righteousness is the powerful anointing that is upon his sons.
Lastly, Elder Will Bennett was a teacher. As I step into the pulpit from this day til my last day I will always take a part of him with me, and that will be the sincerity; the love and passion of Christ, and the commitment to doing ministry as GOD intended. I'll miss this wonderful, wonderful man. Rest peacefully, Brother Will. You earned it.

I first met Will at the prison we worked at together. Throughout those years he not only became a good friend but he became like a brother to me. At work, we would always talk about the Lord. I learned a great deal from him during that time about his faith in God, his love for his family and the love that he had for the people that he counseled. I learned a lot about what it means to be a follower of Jesus Christ by watching the things that he was doing his daily life when he interacted with other people. When he retired, I started going to his Bible studies each week. Through his teachings, I learned how to be a stronger Christian and Minister and how to share my faith and teach others about our Lord. Here on this earth he was a great Minister, Counselor, and awesome Soldier in the Army of God. I will never forget the things that I've learned from him and although my heart is heavy, I know there's a celebration in heaven because he is finally home. Thank you for everything Will. Until we meet again...

My heart is heavy in learning the passing of my friend, Brother ,fellow yoke brother in the Gospel, Elder Will Bennett...we shared a lot while he pastored in Lancaster and I pastor in Nelsonville...I preached for him at the church he pastored in Columbus several years ago. I always found him to be a solid Brother ...a Mans Man...a down to earth man , but also a dynamic preacher and an anointed vessel for the Lord. Many rejoice to have their name in lights...Eld. Will rejoiced because his name is in the Lambs Book OF Life.
