Willie Carroll Obituary
Willie Thomas Carroll, Jr., age 76, passed away on November 3, 2024, at his home in Woodbury, where he lived for over 50 years. Willie was born and raised in Louisiana. He served in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1971 during the Vietnam War. After serving his country, he moved to Woodbury, NJ.
Willie spent 25 years as a police officer at the Woodbury Police Department, and retired as the first Captain of the department in 1996. He was an active member and served as Commander of the VFW in Woodbury Post 2117, as well as at Paulsboro VFW Post 678. Additionally, he was a member of the American Legion Post 133 in Woodbury and the Police Benevolent Association.
Willie was passionate about sports and was a die-hard Philadelphia Eagles fan. He enjoyed gardening, photography, golfing, boating, fishing, music, dancing, computers, cooking, and was an amateur HAM radio operator under the call sign KA2NTB.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Carroll (Donaldson), his children: Willie Thomas Carroll III, Geneva Carroll (Steven) Hordis, Loren (Mark) Hudson, Victoria Carroll, and Matthew (Kelcie) Colfer. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Thomas Carroll, Christopher Hordis, Marley, Madden, and Maren Hudson, Colton Colfer, and his brother Merl (Felicia) Rachal.
Friends may greet the family on Sunday, November 10 from 1-3pm and on Monday, November 11 from 10-11am in the Budd Funeral Home, 522 Salem Avenue, Woodbury, NJ. Funeral service will be Monday at 11am. Interment will be private in Louisiana. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution in memory of Willie Carroll Jr. to either the Eagles Autism Foundation, https://www.philadelphiaeagles.com/eaglesautismfoundation/ or the Fisher House, https://fisherhouse.org/.
