Lindquist Mortuary - LaytonWillie-Mae Elder, beloved wife and mother, passed away Friday, January 16th, quietly in her sleep at 88 years of age. Mae was born in 1937 in Goldsboro, NC to Mildred and James Newman.
Mae lived a life of kindness and devotion to her family and friends. Her gentle, sweet natured presence drew people to her. She loved watching the birds in her yard, growing African violets, and vegetables in her garden. Mae was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints.
She is survived by her 3 daughters, Shelga Barfield, Charlene Deaver-Vazquez, Jamie Durkin and 12 stepchildren Tobin Garrett, Jene’ Terry, Samara Roberts, Luceta Eggli, Hugh Garrett, Elitia Burkey, Avery Garrett, Marinda Garrett, Spencer Garrett, Foster Garrett, Parker Garrett, and Malin Garrett.
Graveside services will be held Thursday February 5, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at the Sunny Ceder Rest Cemetery, Almo, Idaho. Family and friends may visit Wednesday February 4 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd., Layton, Utah.
