Mr. Willie C Pollin Jr.

Willie C. Pollin, Jr., transitioned on Friday, May 3, 2024, at his residence surrounded by family in Columbia, South Carolina. Born in West Palm Beach, Florida on September 18, 1927, he was the only son of Willie C. Pollin, Sr., and Lula Owens Pollin.
When Willie was in his teens the family relocated to South Carolina. He attended and graduated from Allendale High School in Allendale, South Carolina. Some would say his greatest high school achievement was meeting the love of his life, the late Lessie D. Pollin The high school sweethearts eventually married and to their loving union they were blessed with five children. The couple shared over seventy years of wedded bliss before Lessie was called home, to be with the Lord on June 28, 2022.
Shortly after high school, Mr. Pollin made another lifelong commitment, to the United States Army. He had a long and distinguished career in the service and won numerous awards such as: The National Defense Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, a Bronze Star with one OLC, Vietnam Service Medal with one Silver Service Star and one Bronze Star, a Vietnam Campaign Medal, a Meritorious Service Medal with one OLC, Combat Infantryman Badge, Army Service Ribbon, Expert Infantryman Badge, Good Conduct Medal (ten times) and an Overseas Service Ribbon. After an outstanding thirty-year career, he retired as a Command Sergeant Major in 1982.
Mr. Pollin was a dedicated member of Northminster Presbyterian Church in Columbia, South Carolina. He served the church in several capacities throughout the years including Troop Leader of the Northminster Boy Scouts, member of the Presbyterian Men, Evangelism Committee Moderator, Leader of the Veterans Service Worship, Sunday School Superintendent, Deacon and Elder.
In his free time, he enjoyed boating, fishing, carpentry, and spending time with family.
In addition to his parents and five sisters, Mr. Pollin was preceded in death by his wife Lessie D Pollin and three sons; Christopher A. Pollin, Larry D. Pollin and Kenneth R.Pollin.
He leaves to cherish precious memories two daughters, Reatha Pollin Johnson and Melody (Mark) Oakley both of Columbia, SC, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
