Willie Bernice Stokes

Willie Bernice Stokes, of Somerset, New Jersey peacefully passed away at home on Monday, January 12th. She was 90.
Born and raised in Columbia, Mississippi, she lived in New Brunswick, Newark and Piscataway before moving to Somerset in the early 1990s.
She was a homemaker. Willie Bernice was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Somerset. She enjoyed watching sports and favored Golden State Warriors Basketball and Kansas City Chiefs Football. She also enjoyed watching western movies, soap operas and game shows on the television as well as playing games on her iPad. Bernice enjoyed playing a variety of card games including spade, biz wiz and pinochle. Bernice also loves road trips with the family.
Her husband, Robert W. Stokes died in May 2025. She is also predeceased by her sons, Larry Crawford, Jason Stokes, Tommy Crawford and son in-law Jimmy Watts; her brother, Charles Ward.
Surviving are her sons, Anthony Stokes of Trenton, Lionel (Stacey), Seth Stokes both of Somerset; daughters, Sonia Watts, Denice McGee both of Columbia, Mississippi, Brigitt Stokes, Stephanie Needham (Vaughan) of Somerset; a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Private cremation services have been handled under the professional direction of the Gleason Funeral Home, Somerset.
A Memorial Service honoring her memory will be held at the Gleason Funeral Home, 1360 Hamilton Street, Somerset on Thursday, January 22nd from 1 to 2 PM.
