MRS. WILLIE MAE HUBBARD WRIGHT
To everything there is a season,
and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die
a time to pluck up that which is planted:
Ecclesiastes 3:1-2
The clock of life stopped in the home of Mrs. Willie Mae Wright in
Midway, Georgia.
Mrs. Willie Mae Hubbard Wright at 107 years old entered eternal rest 4:30 A.M. Tuesday, December 30, 2025.
Born November 4, 1918, to Mr. Willie Hubbard and Mrs. Lillie Jackson Hubbard in Freeman Grove, Georgia. She leaves behind years of cherished memories as a mother, sister, cousin, and precious child of God.
When Mrs. Willie Mae was three years old, her mother died. Her growing years were impacted by a loving family consisting of a devoted parent, Mr. Willie Hubbard and grandparents, Rev. Luther and Mrs. Jennie Hubbard.
Later, her father married Miss Elzena Lee. (From) this union, she eventually had four sisters (Icelean, Christine, Perry Lee, and Magdeline) and two brothers (Kenneth and Earl).
As a youngster, she was affiliated with the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in Freedman Grove, Georgia.
Her early education was at the Freedman Grove School; a one-room school located at the corner of Coastal Highway 17 and Freedman Grove Road. She also attended Dorchester Academy in
Midway, Georgia.
On June 12, 1939, she married Mr. Robert Wright of
Midway, Georgia. At some point, they went north and reared their family of five children in
Philadelphia, Pa., but they never forgot their roots. To her, traveling back from Philadelphia and coming home to Liberty County (Gress Road in the Dorchester Community of Midway and the Freeman Grove Community) was always a delightful experience.
It was after Mr. Wright's death that Mrs. Wright came back to Midway where she remained until her demise.
Her grandparents, parents, husband, sisters, brothers, and three of her children, (Arletha, Cartel, Madeline) proceeded her in death.
Throughout the years, Mrs. Wright was a loving mother, who loved sewing and sharing the history of her family.
She delighted in letting others know about her Grandfather, Rev. Luther Hubbard, who served in the Civil War and served as the first minister of the Saint Stephens Presbyterian Church, that was located near the Walthourville railroad depot. It was organized in 1895 with 16 members, according to the "History and Published Records of the Midway Congregational Church Liberty County," Georgia by Stacy. He was also a minister of the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in Freedman Grove, Georgia and Bulter's Presbyterian in Savannah, Georgia. Her father, Mr. Willie Hubbard fought in World War 1. She was named after her father because the family did not expect him to return alive from the war.
Left to cherish the memories of a well lived life are a devoted son, Ronald Wright, and daughter, Mrs. Joyce Wright Kennedy; a sister, Mrs. Icelean Hubbard Jackson (Herman) of Piscataway, New Jersey; and a host of grandchildren, great grands, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The clock of life is wound but once
And no man has the power
To tell just where the hands will stop, At late or early hour...
***
The present only is our own.
Live, love, toil with a will. Place no faith in 'tomorrow'
For the clock may then be still.
