Willis Sullenger Obituary

VANDALIA, Ill. - Willis Dean Sullenger Sr., 82, of Vandalia, passed away on Dec. 22, 2024. Born on June 17, 1942, in Lilburn, Missouri, he was the son of the late Odie Sullenger and Lula Mae Stockton Sullenger.

Willis had a distinguished 35-year career as a union boilermaker, retiring at the age of 55. His work ethic extended into his retirement, where he continued to engage in building storage buildings, managing his farm, and raising cattle. Beyond his professional endeavors, Willis enjoyed a variety of hobbies including camping, playing cards, bowling, golf, and learning to play the guitar.

He leaves behind a loving family, including his sons Willis Dean Sullenger Jr. and wife Vicky of Kentucky, Freddy Wayne Sullenger and wife Carla of Kentucky, Thomas William Sullenger and wife Bonnie of Kentucky, Billy Dale Sullenger and wife Leanne of Kentucky, and Kenny Sullenger, as well as daughters Debra Sullenger-Bess and husband Willie Joe of Florida, Deana Schenk and husband Keith of Illinois, and Deanna Lightfoot.

A service to honor his life will be held at McDonald Funeral Home in Hohenwald, Tennessee, with the burial at Whitehead Cemetery in Waynesboro, Tennessee.
