Willis Ted Young
April 11, 1946 - March 01, 2026
Willis Ted Young, 79, passed away at home, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, strength, faith, and a lifelong passion for family and racing.
Born on April 11, 1946, in New Albany, Mississippi, Ted was the son of John and Sarah Young. From an early age, he learned the value of dedication, responsibility, and perseverance - qualities that guided him throughout his life. He proudly served his country in the National Guard, carrying with him a strong sense of duty and commitment.
Ted was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, where his faith and values were reflected in the way he lived and treated others. He was known as a man of integrity who believed in working hard, standing by his word, and caring for those around him.
A true entrepreneur, Ted founded #1 Auto Parts and later Young's Transmission. Through these businesses, he built not only a successful career but also lasting relationships within his community. His work ethic and mechanical skill earned him deep respect from customers, friends, and colleagues alike.
Racing was one of Ted's greatest passions. He managed Greenville Speedway, dedicating countless hours to the sport he loved, and later built Silver Dollar Speedway, leaving a lasting mark on the racing community. The excitement of the track and the friendships formed there brought him great joy throughout his life.
Above all else, Ted cherished his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Ann Young; his son, Ted Wade Young (Angie); and his daughter, Heather Nicole Young. He was a proud grandfather to Bradley Wade Young (Raven), Brittney Michele Dunn (Kennie), and Kylie Danielle Young, and a beloved great-grandfather to Chevi Layne Young. His family was his greatest pride and the center of his life.
Ted will be remembered for his strength, determination, and the quiet way he showed love through his actions. His legacy lives on through the businesses he built, the racetracks he helped create, and the family who will forever carry his spirit forward.
Ted was also blessed with lifelong friends who stood beside him through every season of life. Their loyalty, shared memories, and unwavering friendship meant more to him than words could express. Whether at the racetrack, at work, or simply spending time together, these friendships brought him laughter, strength, and companionship, and were a treasured part of his life's journey
Today we celebrate a life well lived, a man deeply loved, and a legacy that will continue through all who knew him.
Forever loved. Forever remembered.
