Wilma Keene

Wilma "June" Keene, 92, of Arkansas City, KS died Thursday, July 31, 2014, at the Presbyterian Manor. Graveside services have been scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Wednesday. August 6, 2014, at the Mount Hope Cemetery. June was born June 18, 1922, to John W. and Mary Ruth (Coggins) Kimes in Arkansas City. She was reared on the family farm in the Arkansas City and Geuda Springs area. June attended Ark City High School where she graduated from in 1940. On November 18, 1940, June married Thomas R. Keene in Medford, OK. The couple made their home in Arkansas City. June worked in the traffic department as a secretary for Dixie Portland and Flour Mills until her retirement in 1984. She was a volunteer for the American Red Cross, a member of the Arkansas City Woman's Bowling Association, and a member of the Springhill Golf Association. Survivors include her grandchildren Greg Hayes of Emporia. KS; Jeff Hayes of Strong City, KS; Jennifer Fisher of Plano, TX; five great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. June was preceded in death by her husband Tom, a son Richard Keene, daughter Judith Hayes, sisters Lorriane Vasson, and Bobbie Smith. A memorial has been established for the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
