Wilma Rogers Obituary

Wilma attended Huntington High School of Newport News. She worked as a pipe fitter while employed at the Newport News Shipyard, Newport News, VA. Wilma had a true concern for others, as she was always available for those in need of childcare as well as assisting the elderly. Wilma was married to Roy Rogers of Newport News for over 40 years. She was a woman grounded in her faith and studied the Bible without cease. Despite the trials of her life, she trusted and credited her higher power for keeping and protecting her daily. She was well known and loved within the Chestnut Avenue community of Newport News. Her pleasant smile and wishes of prosperity and blessings were always extended to those she encountered.
Wilma recently resided at the Envoy Residential home in Williamsburg, Virginia where she was loved and admired by both staff and residents. Wilma enjoyed her days participating in various activities and sharing her kind words of encouragement to others. She was in the constant care and company of her nieces who ensured she video called, visited, and spoke with as many relatives as possible. Her spirits were lifted to see the many faces she helped to raise express love.
Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, Johnny Brown, Clara Pope and stepfather Clarence Pope; her brothers, John Brown, Larry Brown, Ronald Brown, Dwight Brown, Clarence Pope, Jr. ("Peanut"); her husband, Roy Rogers and her infant son. She will be dearly missed by her sister, Joyce Jones and brother-in-law, George (Butch) Jones of Portsmouth, VA; her brothers, Johnny Brown and sister-in-law, Marlene Jones of Newark, NJ, and Gregory Brown of Columbia, SC.; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
Viewing will be held from 12:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Thursday, August 11, 2022 at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel. A Celebration of Life service will be held 12:00 p.m. Friday, August 12, 2022 at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel. Interment will be in Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
