Wilmer Beyer, 91, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 5, 2023, surrounded by family. He was born on August 18, 1931, in Chilton, Wisconsin, the son of Edgar and Leonora (Schluchter) Beyer. Wilmer was united in marriage to Gladys Wickesberg on June 27, 1959, and she preceded him in death in 1979. He then married Betty (Caldwell) Martin, and they shared 43 years together. Wilmer was a delivery driver for over 20 years for Morning Glory Dairy and then drove school bus in both Appleton and Winneconne for many years. After retirement he worked part time delivering Meals on Wheels. He enjoyed fishing from his pontoon boat at the cottage up north and in Winneconne; watching or listening to Wisconsin football, baseball, or basketball games; and polka dancing with Betty. He loved being a grandpa and great grandpa and enjoyed the companionship of his dogs over the years, especially Angie who will always hold a special place in his heart. Wilmer will be remembered most for his lighthearted nature, always having a joke, and silly demeanor.
Wilmer is survived by his wife: Betty, and sons Michael (Donna) Martin, Donald (Brenda) Martin, Ronald (Donna) Martin, Mark (Debbie) Martin, and daughter Dianna (Daniel) Rockey; grandchildren: Joseph (Erin), Travis (Janell), Trevor (Jodi), Tarah (Daniel), Jamie (Karl), Katie (Daniel), Ashley, Chelsey, and Nicole (Jason); 15 great grandchildren; siblings: Dean Beyer and Marlene Neuber; a sister-in-law: Carol Beyer; other relatives and friends.
Wilmer was preceded in death by his parents; first wife: Gladys; a brother: Lyle Beyer; and a brother-in-law: Alan Neuber.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, on Monday, August 14, 2023, at the Wichmann Funeral Home, 537 N. Superior St., Appleton. Visitation will be on Monday at the funeral home from 9:30 am until the time of the service. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park, 3131 N. Richmond St., Appleton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are appreciated to the Down Syndrome Association of Wisconsin in honor of Wilmer’s younger brother Dean.
