I spent many hours in the Elmore home while in high school. I was always made to feel as if I was a member of their family. Mr. Elmore was always ready with a smile or a funny story. I do not think he ever met a person he could not like. I will always remember the family vacations I was allowed to tag along on. Wilton, Dave, and "Mom", I know you will miss him but he is in a better place and we are all better for having known and learned from him.

My sympathies to you Dave and all who loved him. My dad is in here now to so I know your pain firsthand.
God Bless

I remember having Mr. Elmore as my principal at Potomac View, then working with Shep later in Scouting. He was always a very likeable person. I lost track of him after we left Scouting. I am sorry to hear of his passing but glad he touched so many people in his life.

I will always remember Mr. Elmore. He would come to my first grade classroom at Occoquan and tell the class stories about his life in boy scouts. They would never want him to leave. Hands would be up everywhere to ask him questions to keep him in the room. We all loved his humor and appreciated his caring for us and our families. May God be with his family. Glenda Moffett

Shep and my mother were great friends, and of all the principals she had in her teaching career, he was her favorite by far. I came to know and love him as she did. At her funeral I said if you wanted to know the story about the "Bootlegger's Wife", just ask Shep. His laugh rings in my ears now as I remember him. Both my parents, my cousins from Woodbridge, and countless Orange friends will miss him terribly. My cousin and Shep's and Bobbi's dear friend, Bettye Ann Butler has a bench at the foot of her grave witht the inscription "To live in the hearts of those we leave behind is not to die." Shep will live on in countless hearts. He really was one of a kind, and a kind man. To Bobbi and the family, I know you have a lifetime of wonderful and warm memories of your beloved husband and father. May God's peace be with you. I know there is more laughter in Heaven now that Shep has arrived.

Shep and I graduated from Longwood College and began our teaching careers together. He was best man at my wedding, closest friend for more than 60 years, and when Shep was born they threw the mould away. There was no one like this proud veteran, educator, and community activist. Bobbi, we will all miss him.

My mother, Cathlene Albrecht, taught at Occoquan Elementary with Mr. Elmore years ago. I was a little, little girl, not more than 5 or 6 and I adored Mr. Elmore. He made quite an impression on me, through mere caring. I am 33 now and a teacher in Prince William County and have often thought of Mr. Elmore... what a nice, nice man.

Shep was one of the nicest men I have ever met. I taught at Occoquan Elementary in the late seventies and early eighties. He was the principal there. He always had a smile and pleasant greeting. I remember him coming around to each class room to show us the school's computer. We all gathered around, but were not allowed to touch.Shep passing is the passing of an era. Celebrating a life well lived. I will cherish the memories forever.
