Winfried Kurt Georg Niemand, of
Slidell, Louisiana, passed away on December 12, 2025, at the age of 84. Born on March 31, 1941, in the tumultuous times of World War II in Berlin, Germany, Winfried was a witness to history and a testament to the strength of the human spirit. His parents, the late Elisabeth Luckmann Niemand and Friedrich Arthur Niemand, instilled in him the values of hard work and perseverance which would become the cornerstones of his remarkable life.
Winfried's journey to America began at the age of 11 when his family sought the promise of a new beginning. His father's outspoken Christian missionary work during the war had profound impacts on the family, shaping Winfried's character and his approach to life's challenges. With the echoes of his father's courage, he embraced the American Dream with unwavering determination.
His work ethic was evident from an early age, as he toiled on a farm for mere pennies, saved for a bicycle, and eventually manned a paper route to support his education. At 18, he joined the United States Airforce, stationed back in his birthplace of Berlin, where he served with distinction. His military service was a preamble to his academic achievements at the University of Colorado, where he earned a Juris Doctor in 1971, laying the foundation for a successful legal career.
As a lawyer and a contract negotiator for the Midgulf Association of Stevedores in New Orleans, he was known for his sharp intellect and fair dealings. His entrepreneurial spirit later led him to establish his own company, where his leadership and integrity were hallmarks of his business ethos.
Despite his professional accolades, Winfried's greatest pride was his family. He was a devoted husband to his late wife, Crystal Fay Marshall Niemand, with whom he shared 55 years of loving marriage. Together, they raised three sons: Eric Arthur Niemand, who predeceased him, and his surviving sons, Andre Walter Niemand and Alan Kurt Niemand. His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren, Nathan Winfried Niemand, Emily Elizabeth Niemand, and Meghan Marie Niemand. He also leaves behind his older sister, Gudrun, and a host of extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his younger brothers, Siegmund and Joachim.
Winfried's life story is one of survival, transformation, and triumph. From the ashes of war-torn Berlin to the shores of America, he embodied the spirit of resilience. His life was a beacon of hope and a reminder that with faith, hard work, and love, anything is possible. He will be profoundly missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
