Winifred Ella Thornton

Winifred Ella Thornton (nee Windhorst), of O’Fallon, MO, returned to the loving arms of her creator and savior, Jesus, on Wednesday, November 19, 2025 at the age of 90. Beloved wife of the late Trevor Edward Thornton; cherished daughter of Myrtle and William Windhorst; devoted mother of Michael (Mary Rose) Thornton, Wendy (Mike) McIntyre, Matthew (Maria) Thornton, Kelly (Karen) Thornton, and the late Trevor A. Thornton; loving grandmother of Melissa Thornton, Trevor Thornton, Michael McIntyre, William McIntyre, Maria Thornton, Matthew Thornton, Ella Thornton, and Shane Thornton; dear sister of three siblings who preceded her in death, Aileen Wallis, Linda Windhorst, and William Windhorst; treasured aunt and friend to many.

Winifred was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who adored her family and faithfully attended all of her grandchildren’s events. She loved flowers and her garden, stood strong in her Christian faith, the most important part of her life, and was a proud member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church. A lifelong caregiver and nurse who balanced caring for her home and children while working in the OR, she was affectionately known as a “super mom.” Winifred also loved music and was an accomplished concert pianist, enjoyed sports, and had a deep interest history. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
