Winifred Watson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Anderson Funeral Home and Crematory on Jan. 10, 2026.
Winifred Agnes Aida Greenwood Watson (Winnie), 92, of Beaufort, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at her residence on Thursday, January 8, 2026.

Winnie was born on January 21, 1933, in Nicosia, Cyprus, to the late Edward Arthur Greenwood and Adelaide Cirilli Greenwood.

Winnie is survived by six children: Henry A. Watson (Rebecca), Geralyn W. Ryan, Heather E. Watson-Bittick, Christopher J. Watson (Donna), Cameron B. Watson (Stacie), and Theresa L. Watson.

Winnie was the proud grandmother of ten grandchildren: Jessica L. Neilan (Brian), Justin D. Patton, K.C. Bittick, Jenna L. Bush, Edward A. Watson (Maria), Daniel H. Bittick (Riley), K. Savage Faulkner (Jameson), Jenny Greenwood Watson, F. Carlisle Watson, and Emma L. Watson; and nine great-grandchildren: Khyller, Kirra, Draven, Elizabeth, Andy, Louie, Lucy, Charlie, and Lany.

Winnie became a United States citizen on July 1, 1963, and in 1968 made Beaufort her permanent home. In 1975, Winnie opened The Cake Boutique, a business that quickly became a beloved part of the community. For two decades, until its closing in 1995, Winnie's beautiful cake creations delighted locals and celebrities alike, particularly during movie productions filmed beneath Beaufort's peaceful Spanish moss. Winnie's notable works included the cake for the 1976 Bicentennial celebration hosted by the Beaufort Chamber of Commerce; birthday cakes for The Great Santini and The Prince of Tides; and a wedding cake for Forrest Gump.

A faithful member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Beaufort since 1968, Winnie was also a dedicated Columbiette. Winnie enjoyed baking and decorating cakes, knitting, crocheting, cross-stitching, and playing Mahjong and spending time with her family and friends. Above all, Winnie was an incredible mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend whose warmth, creativity, and generosity left a lasting impression on all who knew Winnie.

The family will receive friends on Monday, January 12, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, January 13, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 70 Lady's Island Drive, Beaufort, SC 29907.

I met Winnie when we were transferred to MCAS Beaufort from Washington, DC in 1976. I made cakes. She always had what I needed. We remained friends and we both were members of Saint Peter´s Catholic Church. I am going to miss her. Love and blessings to Theresa and her family. Vera
