Winsome D. Foulkes peacefully surrendered her earthly tabernacle for her eternal home on Friday, October 31, 2025. Born in Kingston, Jamaica, she brought with her a spirit as radiant and rooted as the island she loved. After completing high school, she journeyed to New York, where she built a beautiful life, married Gilmore Foulkes, and welcomed three treasured children: David, Robert, and Alexandra.

Winsome accepted Christ early in life, anchoring her steps in faith and devotion. While in New York, she nurtured her spiritual walk under the leadership of Father John Nyhan at St. James the Just in Franklin Square, New York. Upon relocating to North Carolina, she joyfully became a member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church located in Erwin, North Carolina, where she continued to grow in grace, service, and love.

Professionally, Winsome was a gifted administrator and human resources professional, known for excellence, integrity, and care. She devoted the majority of her career to Telephonics, retiring after an extraordinary 36 years of service. In 2016, she transitioned to North Carolina to embrace the next chapter of her life—one rooted in community, purpose, and peace.

A visionary at heart, Winsome dreamed of establishing a refuge for weary souls and a community uplifted by compassion. She imagined a place where she could nurture her love for gardening, outreach, and worship. She yearned to be a vessel of encouragement—offering friendship to the lonely, light to those in darkness, and hope to anyone whose spirit had dimmed. Her North Carolina home became the manifestation of that dream, fulfilling every desire she prayed for.

Winsome loved deeply and cared selflessly. She was a spark—igniting purpose, rekindling hope, and offering clarity in moments of confusion. She sought to be the answer where questions overwhelmed, the solution where problems felt insurmountable, and a gentle, listening ear to all who needed uplifting.

She never claimed her blessings as her own. When thanked for her generosity, she used every opportunity to point to God as her Provider. Her humility was sincere and her gratitude unwavering. She was proud to be called His child and keenly aware of the grace that shaped her life.

Upon moving to North Carolina, Winsome sought part-time work and accepted what was meant to be a temporary six-week assignment with ARC3 Gases. That brief assignment blossomed into eight fulfilling years, marked by mutual respect, dedication, and joy.

Winsome’s faith carried her through every season, especially the challenging ones. In 2021, she faced a diagnosis of breast cancer with remarkable courage. She underwent a double mastectomy and subsequent treatments, and for nearly four years she lived cancer-free. When the second diagnosis—stage four liver cancer—arrived, she faced it with familiar resolve, choosing quality over quantity and embracing every single day with intention and gratitude. This awareness propelled her to love even more deeply—visiting, giving, encouraging, and intentionally living life as fully as she could until she couldn’t.

Her life stands as a testament to manifested dreams, deliberate faith, and intentional service. She championed humanity, cared for creation, and advocated for all living things—from people to animals, from gardens to God’s green earth. Her will was strong, her determination profound, and her compassion boundless. Every life she touched was left with renewed hope.

On October 31, 2025, Ms. Winsome D. Foulkes transitioned from this life with the same grace and dignity that defined her every step. She departed without complaint, holding gratitude as her constant companion. She leaves behind a legacy of unconditional love, quiet strength, and unwavering faith. She was a mother, mentor, teacher, and lifelong learner—a woman of excellence, humility, and enduring beauty. True to her name, she was Winsome—and the world is undoubtedly better because she was here.

She leaves to cherish her memory her beautiful sister: Carol Martin, beloved children: David Foulkes, Robert A. Foulkes (Carla), and Alexandra Kuczynski (Michael); eight cherished grandchildren—Sydney, Samantha, Simone, Jonnie, Lelah, Holly, Timothy, and Mikey; along with extended family, church family, and a host of devoted friends.

May we honor Winsome’s life by embodying the compassion she lived, the faith she carried, and the love she freely gave. Though she has entered her eternal rest, the seeds she planted—in hearts, in homes, and in the world—will continue to bloom for generations to come. May her memory be a blessing, her legacy an inspiration, and her light forever be a guide to us all.
