WOLFRAM JOBST Obituary

Wolfram Jobst, age 91, of Newark, Del., passed away on Wednesday, September 10, 2025. Born in Bautzen, Germany on November 27, 1933, he was a son of the late Dr. Fritz and Hildegard (Leonhardt) Jobst. Wolfram earned his doctoral degree in chemical engineering from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, Switzerland. He then began his career as an engineer in Switzerland and later emigrated to the U.S. to build his career with DuPont Co. in Wilmington. There, he thrived for 30 years at the Corporate Research Center in the fields of biotechnology, environmental engineering, fundamental engineering research, and research management.
Wolfram and his wife retired in 1992 and moved to Mansfield, where they created a piece of heaven for themselves, their relatives, and friends. In their new home, he revived his passion for gardening and loved sharing that joy of harvest with his children and grandchildren. He also rediscovered his passion for photography. Wolfram was instrumental in starting and nurturing the Grand Canyon Photography Club in Wellsboro, and for seven years he operated the progressive Photo Cellar Group from his Mansfield home. In early 2012, the Gmeiner Art and Cultural Center in Wellsboro presented Wolfram's gallery-filling photo exhibit "Beauty, Faith and Power".
As a seasoned world traveler, Wolfram delighted in sharing his insights through public presentations such as: "Tuscany and Rome", "The Lure of Greece", "Treasures of Western France", "Mosques, Moors, and More", "Oman Now and Then" and in 2013 "Faces of East Anatolia". In his multimedia presentations, Wolfram interwove historical narratives with his masterful slide images.
While a board member of Hamilton Gibson Productions, he assisted with financial planning and yearned to find an avenue for HG to own their own performance theater. In 2004, Wolfram became a founding member of the "Endless Mountain Music Festival" in Wellsboro and its second president in 2005.
Wolfram will be remembered by his family for his zest for life, which he shared and nurtured in his loved ones and exhibited through his love of learning, his positive energy and his wonderful sense of humor. He loved his home in Mansfield and built wonderful memories of tractor rides, bonfires, skiing, sledding and leisurely swings in the hammock.
In addition to his parents, Wolfram was preceded in death by his daughter, Ulrike Spencer; and siblings, Gisela Proppe, Rosemarie Furler and Sigrid Hess.
He is survived by his sibling, Eberhard Jobst, of Freiburg, Germany and children, Sabine Jobst of Eden Prairie, Minn. and Gernot Jobst (Laurie) of Newark, Del..; grandchildren, Emily Jobst, Hannah Geanopoulos (Steffan), Abigail Jobst, Shannon Casazza, Alexa Casazza, and Jean Casazza; and great-grandchildren, Lucas Geanopoulos and Madelyn Geanopoulos.
All services will be held privately.
