Won Chi So, 86, passed away peacefully at home on October 29, 2025 surrounded by his beloved family.
Mr. So was born in Japan to his Korean parents whom had moved there prior to his birth on December 10, 1938. His family relocated back into Korea in 1946, shortly after the end of Japanese imperialism. Mr. So fell in love and married Sunhui Arciga in 1969 and they had three children before they divorced yet remained friends.
In 1986, Mr. So immigrated into the United States and settled in Queens, NY. He became a US citizen in 1998. He was a skilled carpenter and worked in urban construction for several decades until he retired in 2010. He was a very hard worker and a dedicated father and grandfather.
Mr. So moved to Watertown to reside with his daughter and grandchildren after his cancer recurrence in 2024. An avid fisherman, Won Chi enjoyed spending his final year with his family, playing BINGO and watching westerns and martial arts movies.
Surviving members of his family include two sons, Jake and Scott So, their spouses Daisy and Naomi, and his daughter, SonMi Rutherford. He is lovingly remembered by his four grandchildren: Luke So, Seth Rutherford, Justin So, and Asia Rutherford.
A graveside private family ceremony will be held at Brookside Cemetery.
Donations in his memory may be made to Hospice of Jefferson County, 1398 Gotham Street, Watertown, NY 13601.
