Woodrow "Woody" Riggs, 79, of Harkers Island Road, North Carolina, passed away on Thursday, November 21, 2024, at Cherry Point Bay Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
A gathering of family and friends will take place from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Wednesday, November 27th at Munden Funeral Home.
Woody was born on March 5, 1945, in Morehead City, NC, to the late Henry and Ruby Riggs. From an early age, Woody learned the importance of hard work and dedication which were the values instilled in him through his upbringing on the family farm. These values guided him throughout his life and contributed to his successful career as a mechanic and later for the Carteret County School System, where he proudly served for 37 years until his retirement.
Outside of his professional life, Woody had a deep appreciation for nature, especially the water. He was an avid fisherman and took great pleasure in spending time on his boat.
Woody will be lovingly remembered as a devoted husband, a caring father, and a proud grandfather. His legacy of hard work and love for his family will continue to inspire all who knew him, he will be deeply missed.
Those remaining to cherish his memory are his daughter, Tracy Simons (Allen) of Mill Creek, NC; son, Kelly Riggs (Terri Helms) of Harkers Island, NC; and grandchild, Jesse Simons of Havelock, NC.
In addition to his parents, Woody was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Donna Lisa Willis Riggs; and siblings, Idell Riggs and Earl Riggs.
As an expression of sympathy, flowers are welcome or memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
