Worth Lutz Obituary
February 6, 1933 - January 7, 2024
Hillsborough, North Carolina - Worth Arthur Lutz Jr., 90, of Hillsborough, NC, passed away peacefully at home Sunday morning January 7, 2024.
Worth was born February 6, 1933, in Durham, NC, the son of Worth Arthur Lutz, Sr. and Margaret Agner Lutz. He attended Durham High School and Duke University, then served in the Marines before settling in Durham. There, he and Liz raised their family and built their farm while he pursued a career in construction.
As a lifelong member of Watts Street Baptist Church, Worth served in a variety of leadership roles. He was a prolific builder. A founding member of Durham Habitat for Humanity, he had a hand in over two hundred homes. He became a master woodworker, transforming trees he cut and milled into fine furniture.
Worth was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Lutz. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Elizabeth Lutz, children Worth Lutz III (Erin), David Lutz (Lissa) and Maggie Lutz, grandchildren Graham Lutz, Abigail Parsons (Jacob), Erik Lutz, Isaac Lutz and Alana Lutz, and sister-in-law Sandra Lutz.
There will be a family service at the Lutz farm later. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial gifts be made to Durham Habitat for Humanity.

I still think of Worth and continue to admire him.

Since I met Worth in 1996, I have frequently thought of him as one who lived according to the teaching in Micah 6:8. Also, I have often thought of how multi-talented, yet very modest, he was.
Worth has been a positive influence on me and many others. Truly, he has left the world better than he found it.
I pray that my friend Liz and the rest of the family will be comforted and strengthened in the days ahead.
