Hi Susan,

I just happened to be browsing on line and saw the very sad news that Jimmy died last June. I am so very sorry. I still have pictures of your wedding way back them and remember you both with love and affection.

Susan,
My deepest sympathy has continued to be with you and your family during these past weeks. I trust that the love and prayers of your friends and family have continued to bring you comfort, and an assurance that you are not alone. Jim was a kind and good person who touched the lives of so many.We give thanks for him, and continue to remember his goodness.I remember watching our local news here when he was being interviewed at a Press Conference and the kitten was meowing in the ceiling. It was a great camera moment that we still smile about, that brought new fans to SMU,as we followed Jim's leadership at SMU (and the rescue of the kitten!) Both had great outcomes! It was great having a Lane and Virginia gentleman in the DFW Metroplex!

Bill, I want to apologize for not getting this to you sooner. I was just informed of Jim's passing. He was a great man. Jim has left a legacy we all should be proud of and need to simulate. I know your family is aware of Jim's importance to us all. I want to extend my condolences and prayer to you and your love ones. Peace be with you.

Bill: My Mom and I spoke often about your wonderful family, our great Jr. High team, and my having a wonderful friend in you. You even gave me a cool black eye. I never had the opportunity to shake your brother's hand, however, I did meet your Father who was always on the mission to get me to Cleveland to meet your brother.( He always wanted to meet my Uncle and Aunt who worked for the owner. I'll call them this evening and give them the sad news. I don't get much information from Charlottesville anymore since my Mothers' passing- But it was great seeing you at our 20th Lane reunion. God Bless You and All of Your Family.

Be Still

Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.

Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.

If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.

Dear Susan & Billy: Jim and I were involved in the Athletic Department at UVA in the late 1970's. We did not always "see eye to eye" but we respected each other. I had not seen Jim since he returned from Texas until last Fall when we met at our favorite library branch off of 14th St. We caught up mutual friends and old times. Jim said he was content with his fate and that his volunteer work with children benefited him more than the kids. He encouraged me to do more because of the spiritual benefits to the giver. My thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Copeland family. God bless you all and the memory of Jim--he was a good man! Rev. Dr. George A. Bates, JD

Dear Susie and family,

I was deeply saddened to learn of Jimmy's passing. What a wonderful, happy, positive person he was. When my mother told me yesterday that Jimmy had passed away, the very first thing that came to mind was his great, contagious smile. While he enjoyed much success over the years, to most of us he was the same ol' Jimmy we knew when he was an eighth grader.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. God's blessings.

Bill, Sherry, Reede, Suzie, John and Jean Wood, I was so sorry to hear of your loss. Please know that I feel your grief as my brother passed away suddenly on the same day. The blessing that we have is that our loved ones are with Jesus and we will be reunited someday because of our Lord Jesus Christ. God Bless you and know that I am praying for you.

Jim and I graduated from Lane together and although I have not seen him in a number of years I feel the loss very deeply. I especially send my thoughts and prayers to his wife Sue, his brother Billy and wife Sherry, and his sister Suzie Pace, all of whom I have known for such a long time. I will rememer Jim as a good, kind, fun loving person and it was my good fortune to have known him.
