Vi Fang Gu

September 24, 1935 -January 23, 2026

Born September 24, 1935 in Shanghai, China, she was the eldest of 4 children of Gu Lian Vi, a piano manufacturer, and Zhou Zhi Qing, a home maker. Mrs. Gong was survived by her son, Jerald Gong, his wife and their children, and her brother Gu Chong Fang. She was deeply loved by her sisters and brother, as well as by her cousins, nephews, nieces, and their many children.

Mrs. Gu was a concert pianist and served as Professor of Keyboard at the Xi'an Music Conservatory for more than 30 years. During her tenure, she performed extensively as a soloist, served as Vice Chair of the Keyboard Department, and mentored countless students. Many of her students went on to become concert pianists and to hold teaching positions at music conservatories all over the world. In 1986, she immigrated to the United States with her husband to be closer to their extended family in New York. She continued to share her passion for music by teaching private piano lessons until her retirement.

Mrs. Gu was remembered by us as a devoted and loving wife and mother, a passionate musician and teacher, and a lifelong learner. She was kind, generous, and resilient. She will be forever remembered by us.

In accordance with Mrs. Gu's wishes, only close family members are invited to the commemoration service and interment on January 31, 2026.
