Yolanda Joy Hruby “Yo” entered life August 23, 1962, in Birmingham, Alabama with her parents Vance and Judy Ohme. Yolanda welcomed her one and only sibling a brother, Curtis in 1964 at Marietta, Georgia. On December 6, 2025 she lost her courageous battle with cancer. She fought hard to defy the odds that were given to her.
For the first twenty years the family moved every four years as Vance was in the US Navy. Yo started high school her freshman year at Marietta High School, in Georgia. The school was a 9-12 grade school and had 2000 students, then the family moved to Arcadia High School the year before Yo’s sophomore year and Arcadia was a K-12th grade school with 200 students, it was definitely a change. She graduated from Arcadia High School in May of 1980.
In June of 1980 she married Bob Hruby in Arcadia. Their first child Lynn, was born in December of 1983, a daughter Jessica, joined the family in July of 1985 and their last child a son Warren, joined the family in January of 1990. The family moved to Lisco NE in 1986 where Bob started work for Rush Creek Land and Livestock. In 1994, they moved to Gordon NE. Yo started working at the Funeral Home in 2001 and thoroughly enjoyed serving the local families and helping them through their times of grief.
Yo enjoyed reading and bowling, especially the state and national bowling trips. Her friends knew that she was not a morning person and not to talk to her until she was awake for a while, so it was always a challenge on who would end up rooming with her. She also enjoyed attending sporting events, cheering on the Huskers. You could always find her cheering on the Gordon Broncs and Gordon-Rushville Mustangs when her kids played and then when the Hurlburt kids played and last her grandkids. She was a devoted mother and grandmother enjoying all of their activities, never missing anything from youth to high school.
Yo was always up for an adventure and planning activities for friends and family to get together. We all will have great memories of our adventures together which usually had her saying “watch out people” as she was driving.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents Curtis Lee and Retha Deason, whom she adored. Yo is survived by her kids & grandkids, Lynn & Loni Hruby (Jocelynn, & Urijah), Jessica Holston & Ryan Travis (Braylon & Jaedyn), Warren & April Hruby (Maximus), her parents, Vance & Judy Ohme, brother, Curtis Ohme (Karen). Uncles Bruce (Helen) Ohme, Dennis (Patty) Ohme, niece Kristina Ohme, great niece & nephew Haley and Matthew. She is also survived by many cousins whom she thought very highly of. Yo also had many, many close friends that will forever miss her along with her family.
Celebration of Life will take place on December 18, 2025 at the Gordon City Auditorium at 2:00 PM, followed by burial at the Gordon Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to C.A.R.E of Gordon or the Gordon American Legion.
