Mr. Yoshio Obasa, age 90, of Kurtistown, Hawaii, passed away on August 12, 2025 in a private care home in Keaau, Hawaii. He was born in Hilo, Hawaii on July 27, 1935 and retired from the County of Hawaii Department of Parks & Recreation as the Recreation Director of the Waiakea Recreation Center. He was also formerly employed by Ace Hardware in Keaau and Hilo and was the chief instructor of the Hilo Branch of Kongo Zen Shorinji Karate Club. He was a United States Army veteran.

Visitation will be held at Dodo Mortuary Chapel in Hilo, Hawaii on October 7, 2025 (Tuesday) from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.; funeral service will begin at 5:00 p.m. Casual attire. No flowers.

He is survived by:

Wife: Marcia Obasa of Kurtistown

Son: Blayne Obasa of Kurtistown

Sister: Yoshie (Abel) Wakida of Hilo

Brother-in-law: Karl (Kyoko) Kawauchi of Honolulu

Granddaughter: Kiani Aiwohi of Kurtistown

Numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins
