Yvonne Hylton

Yvonne Deloris Hylton, affectionately known as Dell, was born at Percy Junior Hospital in Spaldings, Manchester, Jamaica, the middle child of three sisters, on November 19, 1957 to Cecil and Leah Hylton.
Dell attended Spaldings Primary school in her early years and then Knox College for high school. She worked at the then Ministry of Youth & Community Development and then in pursuit of her higher education, she attended the University of the West Indies in Mona, Jamaica, studying Geography and Accounting. After university, she held several accounting positions in Jamaica including at Appliance Traders Limited, Coopers and Lybrand and West Indies Pulp and Paper.
She later pivoted to teaching, and taught Geography and Accounting at two of Jamaica's premier high schools, Jamaica College and Immaculate Conception High School. At both institutions her students excelled in their CXC examinations. In 1993, she was named "Most Outstanding New Teacher" at Jamaica College. On the death of her father Cecil, she moved to Clarendon to be closer to her mother, and taught at Clarendon College.
Dell had no biological children, but she had children. Her nephews Mark and Jeffrey, along with her niece Rudi were her children. She spoilt them, unreservedly.
It seemed for a while, she never intended to leave Jamaica, but after the death of her mother Leah, Dell migrated to Florida in 1994. While in Florida, she continued her higher education by attending Florida International University where she attained Masters Degrees in both Accounting and Finance. In Florida, she worked as an accountant at the Florida Department of Revenue, and later Port Everglades.
Dell loved to bake. She was a self taught baker, and was excellent at it. Wedding cakes, black Christmas cake, Easter Bun. You name it, she could bake it. Baking for friends and family provided her great joy. But more than anything, her life and personality were shaped by her strong spiritual beliefs rooted from her early days at the Pentecostal Church in Richmond, Manchester. She was always praying for all of us. She had a kind and gentle heart and spirit and a generous soul. Her lifelong friends, who found her kind, gentle, and loyal, are a testament of her character. Dell left an indelible mark on every life she touched. She will remain in our hearts forever.
