Yvonne R. Schmid, age 85, of Oconto, formerly of Green Bay, passed away Wednesday, October 8, 2025. She was born May 15, 1940 in Milwaukee, WI, daughter of the late Edward and June (Leigh) DeLano and was a graduate of Oconto High School.
After graduation, Yvonne attended beauty school and earned her cosmetology license. She owned and operated two salons in Oconto and Green Bay. She shared her talents as a hairdresser as an instructor at Wisconsin College of Cosmetology. Yvonne was united in marriage to Gordon "Gordy" Schmid in June of 1982. Yvonne and Gordy recently celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary.
Yvonne held a soft spot in her heart for animals of all kinds. She and Gordy ran a hobby farm together, which allowed Yvonne to care for the animals she loved. The farm was home to many animals including llamas, horses, chickens, alpacas, donkeys and most famously, her Rhesus monkey. In addition to the animals on the farm, she also adored her dogs and her birds. She loved to travel, especially with Gordy. They enjoyed trips all over country, mainly to Florida and Las Vegas. In her spare time, she also enjoyed word search puzzles and cross stitch. Yvonne had a heart of gold and would always place others before herself.
Yvonne is survived by her husband, Gordon "Gordy"; her son, Martin "Marty" (Rose) Thompson and a grandson, Connor (Jenna) Thompson. She is further survived by her step-children, Jeffrey (Kelly) Schmid and Brenda (Richard) LaFave and step-grandchildren: Corey Dufresne (his son, Bentley), Kristin (Junius) Coston (their children: Camryn, Ariana, Ayden and Londyn), Jeffrey (fiancée, Liz Hawbaker) Schmid, Ryley (Elizabeth) Schmid (their daughter, Elowyn) and Skyler (Karly) Schmid and Jeremy (Karen) LaFave (their children, Jonas and Kayden) and Adam LaFave.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter, Tammy Thompson.
