Dr. Spurney, Laura and Grant: My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. What moves through us is a silence, a quiet sadness, a longing for one more day, one more word, one more touch. We may not understand why Yvonne left this world so soon or why she left before you were ready to say good-bye; but little by little, remember not that she died, but that she lived. And that her life gave you too many memories to forget. May these memories give you strength in this time of sorrow because I know she will live forever in hearts. Much love, more prayers and hugs.

Yvonne hired me as a new grad in 1993- taught me how to be assertive. Through Yvonne and all those she helped mold in the MICU shaped me into the nurse and NP I am today. Prayers for her family She will be missed.

Yvonne Spurney was my second Duke Nurse Manager. Working with her on 7800. I will always be ever grateful and thankful to her for the support she provided to me when my son was ill. He was suppose to be in his last month of life so I left on leave he lived for 8th months. She called me to check on me allowed the staff to do the same, even paid for my RN renewal. When I returned her support continued. Staff loved Yvonne. I will truly miss her.

Yvonne hired me in the Duke MICU in 1989. I still have my offer letter signed by her. The next 17 years I spent under her leadership were the best years of my 40 year nursing career. She was patient, kind but firm when she needed to be, caring, and always there to support our team. We were family, and she was our mother hen. I will never forget you Yvonne.

My sympathy to the family. I remember when she started as the head nurse for the MICU. She was 35 years younger. We had staff meetings in the hall, it's the only way I'd go to meetings. I remember taking care of yvonne when her chances for survival were slim, but she made it. And conti used trying to make positive changes to make nursing the recognition it deserved.
