Yvonne Wilkinson Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Wilson Funeral Home on Feb. 21, 2026.
Yvonne Edith (Skilling) Wilkinson passed away peacefully on February 17, 2026 at the Gosnell House in Scarborough following a brief illness. In the days leading up to her passing, she was surrounded by numerous family and friends--a crowd that would have thrilled her and a testament to how dearly she was loved and how many lives she touched. She was born at home in Gray on July 5, 1938, to John and Catherine Skilling and had a childhood filled with joy, adventure, and a healthy amount of mischief. She was a 1956 graduate of Pennell Institute and remained active in their alumni association all her life-she never met a reunion she didn't like. On September 7, 1959, she married the love of her life, David L. Wilkinson of New Gloucester. Together they built a house on Little Sebago Lake, where they lovingly raised their daughter, Jayne, and where she remained until shortly before her passing. To know Evie was to love her, and she was possibly the most social creature ever--happiest when surrounded by others and always up for a long talk and a good laugh. She had a sharp sense of humor, which was evident right to the end, as she joked with doctors and nurses and kept them giggling. She was famously, chronically, late for everything and her daughter often noted that she was going to be late for her own funeral; ironically, this is the one event she'll actually be on time for. Well into her 60s, she acquired a passport and became an avid world traveler, visiting Ireland, England, Italy, Croatia, Turkey, and Australia, as well as many domestic trips, all with family and friends by her side to attempt to keep her out of trouble. Another lifelong passion was music and theatre. She could often be found attending shows at the Maine State Music Theatre or various other venues, tapping her toes and singing along. In her younger years she loved to dance and later use of a walker didn't really slow her down either, as she was up dancing at a concert as late as this past December. Her greatest love by far, though, was her large family and many friends. Living on Little Sebago Lake and surrounded by her relatives' camps meant she was rarely without company-exactly how she liked it. Nothing made her happier than watching generations of family enjoying the lake, land, and traditions she'd cherished for decades. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, and her four brothers: Albert Skilling (Betty), Carlton Skilling (Shirley), Kenneth Skilling (Beatrice), and Robert Skilling (Cora). She is survived by her daughter, Jayne (Wilkinson) Bizier and son-in-law Charles Bizier of Jackson, NH and Gray; her sister, Beverly Blake of Saco; her brother-in-law Allyn Wilkinson of Oak View, CA; and too many cousins, nieces, and nephews to possibly list without crashing the internet. Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, February 28 from 2:00-5:00pm at Wilson's Funeral Home in Gray and funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 1 at 2:00pm at Gray Congregational Church. In true Evie spirit, we encourage attendees to come ready to smile, laugh, and share stories-especially the ones that prove just how unforgettable she was.
