Zachary Alan Charon

Zachary Alan Charon was born in Providence, Rhode Island on June 12, 1936, to Edward Charon and Gertrude Charon (nee Schatz) and was raised in Cranston, Rhode Island.
After completing his high school education at Classical High School in Providence, he attended MIT in Boston and completed his bachelor's degree at Cornell in Ithaca, New York. He then pursued his master's in wildlife management at the University of Rhode Island, where he met the love of his life, Jane Ellyn Jones.
Zachary built a career as a High School science teacher, teaching earth science, biology, chemistry and most notably physics, and also served as chief negotiator for the teacher's federation.
He and Jane put down roots in Yorktown Heights, New York while establishing a well-respected career at Blind Brook High School in Rye Brook, New York. Dedicating himself to supporting his family and inspiring countless students to achieve academic excellence, he blended his love of science and the natural world with his work ethic, ready wit and sense of humor.
After retiring, they moved to Fairlawn, Virginia and finally to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Outside of education, he was an avid nature lover, gardener, bowhunter, voracious reader, and supporter of Scouting.
Zachary passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, April 3, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years Jane Ellyn, 7 children and 7 grandchildren, and his younger sister.
A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date.
