Zelda Waldron Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brumley-Mills Funeral Home - McAlester on Jan. 6, 2026.
Zelda Lou Waldron passed from this life on January 1, 2026 at the Integris Hospice House in Oklahoma City, surrounded by family.

She was born on September 28, 1946 in Ashdown, Arkansas. Her parents, Adalaska Champ (A.C.) and Beatrice Scott moved to McAlester in 1951. Zelda graduated from McAlester High School in 1964 and married Johnny Waldron March 3, 1966 in Charleston, Arkansas. They started a family and traveled across the country, living in California, North Carolina and Georgia. Following his military career, they returned to McAlester in August 1980 to raise their five children. Zelda worked as a seamstress at Komar and was a private caretaker for several elderly clients before starting a job at McDonalds in 2016. She enjoyed her work there and will be remembered by many for always greeting them with a smile in the drive through! Zelda retired in 2022. She was a lifelong member of Lakewood Christian Church, she attended Community Bible Study and was an avid gardener. She loved spending time outside tending her flowers, going fishing and chasing after her grandchildren! Zelda never met a stranger and to the dismay of her family often offered rides to people she met along the way, a testament to her giving nature and desire to always help those less fortunate than herself. Her kind smile and gentle spirit will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Zelda was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Bobby Scott, granddaughter, Evan Paige Waldron and grandson, Justin Currey.

She leaves behind her children, Angie Dickison and Matt, Rio Linda, California, Joe Waldron and Jackie, Oklahoma City, Marina Waldron, McAlester, Tammy Currey, Bristow and Jenifer Hartness and Matt, McAlester; as well as 12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.

Celebration of life services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2026 at Lakewood Christian Church, 840 S. George Nigh Expy., McAlester, officiated by Cliff House.
