Zelma Haney Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch on Jan. 14, 2010.
HANEY, Zelma Ruth Durrette, 78, of Spotsylvania, went to be with God and join her broken circle on Tuesday, January 12, 2010, at Mary Washington Hospital. Mrs. Haney was the widow of William Allen "Pat" Haney whom she married January 26, 1949 in LaPlata, Md. She was born February 18, 1931 in Beaverdam to the late Robert Theodore and Margaret Alice Gordon Durrette. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Alfred Keith, Lawrence Andrew and Tarleton Bleece Durrette; one sister, Georgia Elouise Ancarrow; and one sister-in-law, Geraldine Joyce Bowen Durrette. Mrs. Haney was a member of Zion Christian Church in Beaverdam. She was a defining source in her husband's trucking business, which was made possible with the consideration and persuasiveness of Gene T. Donald with whom a wonderful relationship was built. Both the Haneys loved their jobs. Mrs. Haney was also an amateur genealogist and loved researching documents and court records in her spare time. She was a survivor of lung cancer since 1997. Survivors include her goddaughter, Pamela Sue Achter and family of Strongsville, Ohio; one sister, Pauline D. Mistro and husband, George; two brothers, Robert T. Durrette Jr. and wife, Mary, and Glenn R. Durrette; two sisters-in-law, Barbara T. Durrette and Barbara G. Durrette; one brother-in-law, Charles N. Ancarrow; 17 nieces and nephews, 27 great-nieces and nephews, and many great-great-nieces and nephews; and the most dependable, generous and considerate neighbors one could ever want, Dr. Michael L. Bass and wife, Heather, and Joseph Wheby and wife, Becky; and two of her late husband's nieces, Ruby H. Mullins and husband, Marty, and Sandra H. Burrows and husband, William "Billy." A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 16, at Laurel Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, January 15, at Covenant Funeral Service, 4801 Jefferson Davis Hwy., Fredericksburg, Va. 22408. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to Zion Christian Church, P.O. Box 55, Beaverdam, Va. 23015. Online guestbook at covenantfuneralservice.com
