Ange Moreno Obituary

Long-time Napa resident Angelo "Ange" Moreno, 95, died Nov. 18, 2025 at his home in Napa.

Ange was born on Oct. 1, 1930 in a farmworker cabin on the Uhl Ranch in Vacaville. His parents Ezequiel and Virginia Moreno emigrated from Mexico in 1925. After some time in Los Angeles, the family moved to Vacaville to join the De La Rosa family. The two families have a friendship spanning 150 years.

The family later relocated to the Santa Clara Valley where Ange grew up. A lifelong athlete, he played football, basketball and baseball at Bellarmine College Preparatory school in San Jose, graduating in 1949. In 1951, he came to Napa to play football for Napa Junior College where he played fullback. As a young man, he and his friends would go on wilderness backpacking trips in Yosemite National Park, a place he would later take his family on camping trips for decades.

In 1951, he married Jerri La Rocque. They had four children, making their home in Napa. Ange worked as an operations officer for Bank of America and later was a truck driver and milkman for Stornetta Dairy. He was also a business agent for what was then Teamsters Local 490 in Vallejo. Later he worked in sales for construction suppliers and managed offices for the California Human Development Corporation.

In 1981, while playing tennis at Napa Valley College, he met Alice Peiffer. They were married in 1984. In their 40 years of marriage, they traveled around the country and to China, frequently to Mexico and took several trips to Europe. In retirement they were part-time sales representatives for educational textbooks, visiting schools in remote corners of California.

He and Alice were very social and were dedicated fans of the San Francisco Giants and 49ers.

Ange was an accomplished handyman who had creative fixes for home improvements. He played tennis and exercised at local fitness clubs well into his nineties. His mind remained sharp and until recently he had been in remarkable health.

Ange is survived by his children Julie (Tony) Smith of Vacaville, Matt (Linda) Moreno of Napa, Paul (Alyson) Moreno of Chico; sister Helen Rocha of Bishop; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Ange was preceded in death by his wife Alice Moreno who passed in January 2025; son Craig (Louise) Moreno; and sisters Connie Moreno, Lee Sanger and Lucy Walson.

Mass will be held at St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church in Napa at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 15, followed by a reception at Tulocay Cemetery Funeral Home. Interment will be private.

Arrangements are under the direction of Tulocay Cemetery, Funeral Home & Crematory. Ange M Moreno

Tennis and Angie, tennis and Angie. That's what I remember when I think of my friend! Herb Colton and Angie were two of the first people I played tennis with when I arrived in the Napa Valley in 1982. I would take my daughter Lindsay to the courts and they were both gracious in keeping an I out for her when I wasn't watching. Angie was a gentleman of the highest degree and he passed that on to Matt, who was kind enough to play my daughter in tennis while I had another match with someone else. Rest in peace Angie! Condolences to the entire family.
