Colleen Clark
January 11, 1954 - July 13, 2024
NAPA - Napa native Colleen Clark died on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at her home in Napa, surrounded by family and friends after suffering metastatic breast cancer. She was 70.
Colleen is survived by her brother, David (Beverly) of Sydney, Australia; her brother, Mark (Kristine) of Carmichael, CA; her niece, Becca (David) of Sydney, Australia; her nephew, Jesse (Millie); and grandnephew, Otis Etienne of Berlin, Germany; and her nephew, Ray of South Lake Tahoe, CA.
Colleen was born and raised in Napa County, the daughter of Ray and Monica Dabelstein Clark. Colleen attended Mt. George Elementary, Silverado Middle and Napa High Schools before earning her A.A. from Napa Valley College and a B.A. in Political Science from Humboldt State University in 1977. Upon receiving a J.D. from Southwestern University School of Law in 1980.
Colleen began practicing law in the insurance defense field. Residing in Pasadena and loving it. Colleen was a 15-year member of the Tournament of Roses, a member of the Pasadena Jr. Chamber of Commerce, the Board of Governors of the University Club of Pasadena, the Board of Directors of the YMCA of Pasadena, the Board of Directors of the Pasadena Bar Association and past President of the Pasadena Young Lawyers. She returned to the North Bay in 1999, and practiced law as an in-house lawyer for Farmers Insurance in Santa Rosa. While living in Santa Rosa, Colleen served as adjunct professor at the Empire College of Law. She opened her own law practice in 2006 while caring for her elderly father.
In 2009, Colleen was awarded a contract from the State of California to represent mothers in child dependency cases to protect their constitutional rights. The work was stressful but very rewarding.
A busy professional life did not keep Colleen away from her devotion to volunteering and singing. Highlights included performing in the 2010 Follies du Valle and being an active annual volunteer for Auction Napa Valley. She coached Napa HS mock trial teams for 14 years, keeping in touch with many students over the years. In 2005, Colleen joined the Napa Sunrise Rotary and served as a board member several times.
Through her association with Napa Valley College and Napa HS Alumni, Colleen traveled and sang in Italy, Austria, Scotland, Ireland and England. Collen often graced the stage singing for Sing Napa Valley, the NVC Chorale and NHS alumni choir. She treasured all of the dear friends she made along the way. An avid gardener, many friends were lucky enough to get a jar of Colleen's tomatillo salsa. Clarissa, Colleen's beloved cat, will continue to live in the neighborhood with dear friends Sue and Bill.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Napa Sunrise Rotary Endowment Fund or the Napa Valley Community Foundation (to the Colleen Clark Endowment Fund).
Colleen loved a good party and a celebration of her life will be held in the near future.

Sad to hear of Colleen's passing. I knew her 'forever,' well really since 4th grade at Mt. George. I lived on Second Avenue, she was about a mile away on First Avenue. (I think it was really Heinke or Hienke Drive.) Used to see her at every 10th year Napa High '72 Reunion. but missed her at the 50th in September 2022. I kick myself for that all the time. She is one of the few people that still called me Thomas and I let her get away with it. Rest in Peace Colleen, you were always one of the good ones!

We saw our first London play, the King and I, in the West End Palledium Theater with Colleen and Karen in summer, 2018, while touring with the Napa High Alumni tour. Her excitement and enthusiasm was palpable. More importantly, Rachel sang with Colleen in the beautiful cathedrals of Scotland, Wales and London... you are gone too soon, Colleen. With love. Condolences to her family.

Aunt Colleen, you are so loved by our family. Even though we always lived oceans apart, I always felt incredibly close to you. The times we spent together in the US and Australia were so fun and special; I wish there could have been more, and I know you do too. You inspire those in your world with your principles, compassion and willingness to help people, and you impress them with your incredible energy and love of a party! I look forward to telling Otis stories of his cool Graunt Colleen, and I'm so grateful you two got to meet via video call. Love forever, Jesse and Otis xoxo

Colleen was a rare bird, and it was an honor to have known her. Brilliant and quick witted, driven and wise, with a legacy to inspire. I will remember her, and her beloved Clarissa , fondly.

What a huge loss for our local community! Colleen helped me win full custody of my child after the county erroneously stepped in with unfounded allegations while my child was in the NICU being treated for a common condition. This experience inspired me to become involved in legislation to protect mothers who are misinformed by their OB doctors and to protect our rights as parents. She helped so many families who could never afford private counsel and never shied away from a good fight. Thank you for fighting for us and know that both of us are doing big things to help make the world a better place!

Colleen (Squirt) and I shared a shorthand class. We had a great time sharing weekend adventures. We talked about our individual experiences in the Sierra foothills, and we talked about our futures. Well done, Squirt. You made such a difference in the lives of so many people. I will always remember you fondly. I'll treasure the laughs we shared. God bless you on your new journey.

Went to high school with Colleen. We fondly called her Squirt. Had many great times together. Such an accomplished woman and bright light having left us too soon. My thoughts are with her family and will always include my memories of her.

First met Colleen in the last NV Follies and subsequently saw her at dozens and dozens of shows at various venues, most of which she performed in.
We never spent time away from those circumstances, but we liked each other a lot and always happily hugged and caught up.
Deep condolences to her family and friends. Obviously she touched many lives during hers- and isn't that what ours should be about?
Colleen, you will be missed greatly. Many folks are shocked that you've left us, seemingly abruptly, but apparently not. Sorry to learn cancer took another special one prematurely.
I will have a remembrance for you at ACS' Relay For Life Aug 3 & 4th. Rest in peace, dear accomplished lady.

I first met Colleen at the Napa Valley Follies in 2010. She was a joyful presence, a generous spirit, and a hard worker. We had lunch together about 6 months ago. I had no idea it would be our last visit. Colleen will live on in my heart in in all the hearts of those she touched.

Colleen was a close friend, and I got to know her well at Napa Valley College, where I was the staff pianist. We worked together on several shows, concerts, and recitals. A frequent topic of conversation was our pets. Colleen loved her kitties. I am very glad to learn that Clarissa will have a good home in the same neighborhood. I will miss Colleen very much. She was super smart, a delightful person, and so very much loved.

We should all aspire to what Colleen achieved and experienced but most of all to be the kind, loving, generous lady she was. I have so many fond thoughts and memories with Colleen that always give me a lightness of being. I will truly miss her friendship. My love and hugs to the whole family. Juli
