David Marc Hoxsey
Nov. 8, 1956 - Nov. 11, 2023
LA PINE, OR - David Marc Hoxsey passed away unexpectedly in Grant County, OR.
David grew up on and later managed the family owned SX Ranch, in Alturas, CA. He was a beloved son, brother, nephew, cousin, and uncle. Throughout his life David exuded the deeply rooted tradition of agriculture and harmony with nature. A tradition that David cherished and supported. Attending elementary school in Alturas, David went on to excel at basketball at Saint Helena High School in 1974. David pursued higher education at Chico State University and University of California, Davis, where he laid the foundation for his future endeavors in agriculture.
In the 1990s, David furthered his commitment to the agricultural sector by participating in the California Ag Leadership program Class 21. This experience not only broadened his understanding of agriculture but also reinforced his leadership skills in the field.
David's love for the outdoors was unparalleled. An avid hunter, fisherman, and sports enthusiast particularly in golf, basketball, and baseball. He found peace and joy in the heart of nature. His knowledge and enthusiasm for holistic health practices was shared with everyone. He always wanted the best for everyone in his life. His knowledge of the wilderness was vast, and he took great pleasure in teaching the younger generations about the beauty and importance of the natural world. His kind soul and ever-present intention to do good made him a mentor and friend to many.
Beyond his outdoor pursuits, David was known for his warm heart and generous spirit. He was the kind of person who always had the best intentions at heart, touching the lives of everyone he met with his kindness and genuine care. For the last few years, he lived in Grant County, OR, surrounded by the bucolic nature he so enjoyed.
He is survived by his mother, Dawne Pelissa Dickenson; his brothers: Andrew and Joshua Hoxsey; sisters-in-law: Nancy Hoxsey and Marion Hoxsey; his nieces: Kendall Hoxsey Onysko, Morgaen Hoxsey Pickett, Alexia Hoxsey; and great-niece, Lizzie Onysko. His nephews: Sebastien and Adrien Hoxsey; and great-nephews: Andrew Pickett and Jack Onysko; his aunt and uncle, Ren and Marilyn Harris; and his cousins: Jennifer Harris Jakoby, Hansi Jakoby, Kevin Jakoby, and Joy Jakoby.
David's absence leaves a void in our family and community. He will be profoundly missed by all who knew him. As we mourn his loss, we also celebrate his life - a life lived with passion, kindness, and a deep love for the natural world.
"Those we love don't go away; they walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near; still loved, still missed, and very dear."
The family is planning a private funeral.
