Inez Pometta

1933 - 2024

On November 20, 2024, Inez Pometta passed away peacefully at a local hospital surrounded by her children. She was 91 years old. Her parents, Mario and Palma Pometta move to Oakville in 1929. Inez was born on October 30, 1933 in a house in Oakville and resided in the town of Oakville her whole life. She graduated from St. Helena High School and attended classes at Napa Valley College.

Throughout the years, Inez worked alongside her parents, Mario and Palma Pometta, and assisted with the daily operations of Pometta's Deli. Over the years, she worked at both the Oakville and St. Helena locations. Inez was an avid baker and known throughout the valley for her homemade apple pie and walnut chews. Her delicious desserts could be purchased at both deli locations over the years.

Inez enjoyed gardening and digging around in the dirt. She had a fascination with ancient artifacts and local history. She loved her trips to the casino and playing bingo. She could often be found playing board games with her grandchildren for hours and she was the queen of Yahtzee. Inez's playful and childlike spirit made her the best grandma ever. The only thing that surpassed her love of board games was her love for Halloween. Since she was born a day before Halloween, she always had a special affinity for this holiday. As a family, we had many Halloween parties throughout the years and she dressed in costume for all of them well into her 70's. Inez was also a huge football fan and loved the Dallas Cowboys! She also enjoyed watching golf with her son during the Tiger Wood's era.

Inez is survived by her two brothers, Louie Pometta and John Pometta, her three children, Laurie Etcheberry, Laurence Etcheberry and Pamela Muller and her two grandchildren Brent Muller and Sheree Muller along with three great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She's proceeded in death by her parents, Mario and Palma Pometta and her two siblings Mario Pometta Jr. and Maria Sather.

A visitation will start at 5:00pm on Monday, December 2nd at Claffey and Rota Funeral Home, 1975 Main St. Napa, with a rosary to follow at 6:00pm. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00am on Tuesday, December 3rd at the Holy Family Catholic Church, 1241 Niebaum Lane in Rutherford. A private interment will take place at the Yountville cemetery.
