Marjorie Frances Baltzer (born Marjorie Frances Wright) July 5, 1927 - October 15, 2020.
"We never know how high we are till we are
called to rise.
Then if we are true to form our statures touch
So lived Mother, Grandmother, Aunt, Wife, Sister, Friend, Advocate and fellow community member, Marjorie Frances Baltzer.
Marjorie passed at 4:00 pm on October 15, 2020 at the tender age of 93 in her beloved town of St Helena, CA.
Marjorie, or Margie as her adored ones called her, born in Oakland, CA and then relocating to St Helena, CA, lived life to serve; whether caring for the mentally ill, advocating for the underserved or lifting up the vulnerable. This was evident in her work as an RN Psychiatric Nurse in both Highland Hospital in Oakland, CA, for 30 years and then at Gladman Memorial Hospital, Oakland, CA for 20 years before retiring.
Post-career, Margie lived to learn and grow evidenced by her enrolling in St Helena Community College for Spanish lessons so she could converse with farm workers while bringing them lunch and water on hot days with her equally dedicated husband, Edwin Baltzer.
She would also expand her theatrical talents with the Reader's Theater at the White Barn and deepen her faith as a member of the St Helena Catholic Church serving the community and was active at the Rianda House.
Margie and Edwin, avid gardeners, also loved music and entertaining as any one of their family members could attest to with fond memories of Poker Nights, Pool Parties, 4th of July BBQ's and other holiday gatherings peppered with great music, delicious potluck food and local St. Helena wines in their beautiful and lush backyard.
Most of all, Margie will be remembered for her generosity of spirit, willingness to treat friends as family, and her devotion to her loved ones.
Her granddaughter Chrissie remembers moving into her first apartment and Grandma Margie and Grandpa Ed showing up with a truck full of antique household items from their antique store, The Oak Room, housed at the Red Hen Antique Mall in Napa, CA.
Margie is lovingly survived by her sister Shirley Blum, daughter Christine Egan, son Richard Widra, stepdaughter Elaine Bullis, stepson Bruce Baltzer, grandchildren Chrissie Lawler, Veronica Egan, Jason and Terra Bullis, and Sean Baltzer, and 5 great-grandchildren.
Through her devotion to service, empathy for the underserved and fully festive sensibilities; Marjorie Frances Baltzer's stature rose much higher than her 5'2 frame; indeed, rising to the skies and now beyond to higher realms.
