Richard Eagleston Obituary

Richard Philip Eagleston, "Shorty" to those who knew him well, departed this life on November 25, 2024, at the age of 84. Born leap day, 1940, in Washington, D.C., he would often joke that he was still in his 20's. He graduated with honors from Bell Vocational High School and enlisted in the military at 18, following his brother. He served with distinction for 32 years, including aboard the USS Plunger 595, USS Kamehameha 642, and USS Pampanito, achieving the rank of E9 Master Chief Petty Officer. He earned multiple nuclear reactor certifications, later serving as an instructor and career counselor in the naval reserve unit DET. 220.

Richard excelled in woodworking, home improvement, nuclear maintenance, and pushing the boundaries of dance at parties. Inspired by his sister's presidentially recognized volunteer work, he also gave back to his community, volunteering at the senior center through NARFE, and as a member of Napa's SIR 149.

Richard is survived by his wife Mary, children Richard, Michael, and Jené, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A service will be held on December 12 at 11 AM at Saint Apollinaris Church.

Though he is no longer with us, the strength of Richard's love and devotion will live on in our hearts forever. Richard Philip Eagleston

Our amazing Uncle Rick, so incredibly thankful for him. Prayers for Aunt Mary, Rick, Bret, Jene' and their families during this difficult journey. To add to how fun he was, Uncle Rick and Aunt Mary came out east for a visit and my Mom's (Rick's sister Mary) pancakes were a little tough. As usual Uncle Rick turned a bad situation into fun, as he tossed the pancakes out back yard to other family members stating, "look Frisbies!" Have so many happy memories. Much love and adoration.

Shorty was a friend of my dads (Ed Martinson) and I believe they worked together at Mare Island. Shorty and my 6ft tall mom, Jackie, use to dance at all the parties. I remember him as "the life of the party". My mom, sisters, and I send our deepest sympathy. Love, The Martinson Family
