Robert Domenic Massaro II

1953 - 2024

Robert (Bob) D. Massaro II, the loving husband of Lisa (Batto) Massaro, unexpectedly passed away on May 29th, 2024, at the age of 71. He was born in Hartford, Connecticut on April 13, 1953. Son of the late Robert and Marilyn Massaro. At age 10, his family moved to West Hollywood, CA.

Bob loved the sea and at a young age became a very good sailor. He enjoyed sailing his various vessels from the mainland to Catalina.

Bob graduated from Loyola University with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology in 1974. In 1975 he followed with a Master of Public Health in epidemiology from UCLA. He soon obtained a position at the Southern California Regional Occupational Center where he taught Public Health. Always looking for future advancement, at 25 years old, he accepted a position at the hospital of the Good Samaritan in Los Angeles as Director of Education. During this time Bob joined a dojo and started a lifelong passion for karate, elevating to a 5th degree black belt under legendary Master Phillip Skornia.

Wanting more challenging and fulfilling endeavors for his multiple interests and skills, he and his brother Jon established Massaro Associates, a design/build firm from 1981-1998. One of their first projects was to design and build the child care center at The Hospital of the Good Samaritan followed up with the Child Care Center at Holy Cross Hospital in Mission Hills. They completed over 300 projects during those decades. The projects comprised of Multi Family, Commercial, Major Motion Picture set construction, along with dozens of custom homes for celebrities, directors, producers, musicians, and even a prince and future King, Bob ultimately had enough of that pace and decided to seek a new life with his family and in 1995 they moved to Napa, California. There he nurtured his desire to focus on what really mattered to him, his melding of his education in public health and building sustainable housing. Hence the coalescence which ultimately became Healthy Buildings. He was very proud of the fact that during his 28 years as a resident of Napa, his companies have developed over 100 housing units in the City of Napa and over 160 throughout the entire County of Napa.

During his years in Napa, Bob was a perpetual volunteer, of which most of his efforts were for the creation of good affordable housing in the community. He enjoyed his work and felt he had an opportunity to change the world in a positive way. He did this with every project he developed and places where he volunteered his services. He liked this motto so much, that his license plate was CHGWRLD. In 2021 he was appointed to the City of Napa Planning Commission. He felt this was a pinnacle point in his life to help improve the projects that came forward through the commission. He always looked for ways to get a better project for the environment and his community.

Bob's leisure time was spent by taking long cruises on the Napa River and Lake Berryessa, traveling with Lisa, and taking his beloved Boxer Abby for long walks. One of his favorite things to do was to have family and friends over to his home to cook for them. He loved to cook, and everyone loved his Eggplant Parmigiana.

He leaves behind his beloved wife, Lisa Massaro of Napa, his son Matthew Massaro, step children Jessica Jaeger (David Matthews) and Charles Jaeger of Napa. He also leaves Mabel Batto, (Mother in Law), Olivia Massaro (former spouse) Mona Towns (stepmother) all of Napa. His brothers, Peter Massaro of Apple Valley CA, Jon Massaro (Linda), Tony Mostrom (Lara) of Los Angeles, CA and Dean Mostrom of Napa. His sisters Mia Bunch of Apple Valley, CA, Suzanne Jefferson and Adele Massaro of the San Juan Islands, Washington. He also leaves his grandchildren, Kaelynn Weaver and Nico Matthews. His nieces, Stacy Bunch, Marilyn Massaro, Hilaree Massaro. His nephews, Joshua Bunch, Lucas Massaro, Logan Massaro and grand nephew Jordan Jefferson. He was predeceased by his parents, Robert D Massaro, Marilyn Massaro, nephew, Jordan Jefferson, his brother-in-law, David Bunch, and his father-in-law John Batto.

A Celebration of Life will be held on June 29, 2024, 2pm at Crosswalk Church, 2590 1st Street, Napa, CA. Robert Domenic Massaro II
