Augustine Pakosta Obituary

Augustine (Gus) Pakosta A memorial for Gus Pakosta, 83, will be held on Sunday, October 24th, 12:00-4:00 at the VFW, 908 Jackson Ave., Naperville, IL. Born in Haugen, WI on May 28, 1927, the son of Joseph and Beatrice (nee Glaser) Pakosta, he peacefully passed away on Oct. 16, 2010 after a brief illness, surrounded by the love of his family. During a long childhood illness, Gus developed the skills to repair clocks and watches, which lead to a successful lifelong career. He moved to Lisle in 1946 to work on the campus of Sacred Heart Academy and there met and fell in love with a young student Eunice DeRuntz who became his wife of 63 years. In their early married years, Gus owned a retail jewelry store in Lisle which included the service of watch repair. Not satisfied with his income, he sold the store and became a barber and combined his two careers ever since. Gus and Eunice often escaped on short trips to their lake home in Huagen, WI where he thoroughly enjoyed his homeland and the country. His career choices, handsome smile as well as friendly demeanor made Gus well-known in both Naperville & Huagen-areas and will be missed by many. Gus was preceded in death by his brothers Joseph, Charles, Louie, and sister Teddy. He is survived by his wife Eunice, brothers Al (Rose), Frank, Tony (Nancy) and sisters Marie Laemmrich, Lee (Norm) Soderman, his son Gus Jr., and daughters Christine Pakosta, Nina (Stuart) Betts, Theresa (Kent) Harris, five grand-children, one great-grandson, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Best watch repair guy that I ever found. Don't think he can be replaced, so now time will stand still.

Thanks Gus,

David Walls

I was Gus's physician for many years and got to know him pretty well. When he walked into the office, he was the center of attention- the receptionists loved him and the nurses loved him. He had that look of a gentle grandpa who had seen a lot and could feel for you if you had a good day or a bad day. He always told me stories of life in earlier Naperville and always had an insight on the events of the day. I never heard him complain about anything or anyone. He had that infectious quality of being a good listener. I will miss him telling me that I needed a good haircut and that I should come by and he would take care of that... I also wish that I had a good watch that got broke so i could see him fix it. Unfortunately, he instilled in me a love for that wisconsin cheese that he always brought back from "up north".
Over the years, Gus had a few medical problems that slowed him down and forced him to get medical care but i do not remember him ever complaining about it other than to ask why he had to wait so long in the waiting room and that he would never let his customers wait that long.
So long, Gus. I am sure you were a great barber and watch repairman, but you were also someone who we all enjoyed getting to know and would be glad to have as our "neighbor".
