George Stoffel Obituary
George L. Stoffel, Sr., age 80, of Waupaca, WI, passed away on Sunday, December 28, 2008 at Riverside Medical Center.
George was born in Fargo, ND on October 21, 1928, the son of the late Fredrick A. and Margaret V. (Glarner) Stoffel. He graduated from Rochester High School in 1946 and attended Roosevelt University in Chicago, majoring in music.
After serving in the U.S. Navy during W.W. II, he was in retail store management, retiring from the Neiman Marcus Corporation in 1992. On June 16, 1951 George married Nanci A. Webb in Waupaca, WI. He was a member of the Lion's Club and a faithful member at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus in Waupaca. George loved his dogs dearly and was an avid Chicago White Sox and Bears fan. He enjoyed singing in the church choir, playing his drums, golfing and the Stratton's Drug Store Coffee Club.
George is survived by his wife of 57 years, Nanci Stoffel of Waupaca; his son, George (Michelle) Stoffel, Jr. of Austin, TX his grandson, Alec Stoffel; and granddaughter, Thea Cross; also surviving are his nephews, Terry (Cathy) Webb and their children, Caitlin and Ceara, Kevin (Cynthia) Webb and their child, Madeline; his nieces, Maureen (Jim) Gagnon and their children, Jamison and Andre, Erin (Steve) Dypvik and their children, Cressy, Emma, Molly and Kylie; Colleen (Jim) Neinhaus and their children, Corissa and Corbin and Katie (Chip) Martoccia and their child, Calvin.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 AM Saturday, January 10, 2009 at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Community in Waupaca with Father Brian Belongia, presiding. Interment of cremains will be in St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Cemetery in the spring. A gathering of family and friends will be on Saturday morning, from 10 AM until the time of mass at the church.
