Kevin Lonergan Obituary

Kevin Joseph Lonergan, age 26, formerly of Naperville, Illinois and recently of Safety Harbor, Florida passed away peacefully on October 16, 2021 surrounded by his four siblings and parents after a brave and courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in Arlington Heights, Illinois, on June 24, 1995 and shortly thereafter relocated to Naperville with the family where he was raised and graduated in 2014 from Neuqua Valley High School. He then went to college in Gainesville, Florida to study Zoo Technology and Construction. He was employed at Jacobsen Homes and later REI Co-op.

Kevin had an independent, free spirit and enjoyed music, live concerts, animals, his reptiles, fishing, long boarding, the NBA (especially the Bulls), breweries, colorful socks and hats, and spending time with his family and numerous friends. One of his recent achievements was buying a house with a back yard to finally get his own dog. His new love and roomie is a Goldendoodle named Kygo, after one of his favorite musicians. Kygo will remain in the family.

Kevin will forever be missed and is survived by his parents Tom and Karla; his siblings Ryan (Jenna), Casey (fiancee Kate), Kelly, and Kenna; nephews TJ and James; many aunts, uncles, and cousins; and his many amazing friends who have all been so supportive throughout Kevin's life.

Cremation rites were accorded, and a "Celebration of Life" reception will be held at Noon Whistle Brewing at 1748 W. Jefferson Ave, Naperville, IL 60540 from 12:00pm to 3:00pm on Saturday, December 4. As you know, Kevin would not want "fancy," so please dress casual and comfortable. In lieu of flowers, any memorial contributions should go to BCAN.ORG or the American Cancer Society at cancer.org.

I am so honored to have the opportunity to have spent time with Kevin and his parents. I think of you often and reflect on the person you were. My heart hurts for your family as I can relate to losing a child. I pray that their hearts would be healed and they focus on how grateful they are for having you in their lives for such a time as this, focusing on the wonderful person you were. Funny, adventurous, independent and you just being you. Blessings to your family and all that mourn the loss of you.

My heart goes out to all the loved ones Kevin left behind. Especially Karla and Tom. I only knew KEVIN for a few years but he left a lasting memory in my heart and I was very honored to have known him. I pray God will show the Lonergan family strength to get through this very difficult loss and that Kevin is at peace. Blessings.

Kev was such a cool kid.. I was blessed to get to know him better when he moved to Florida, and he would stop over occasionally and sit on our dock with us and have a beer. Kevin looked at life, and people, at face value, no pretences. He was so genuine, so kind, so funny!!.. And he is going to be missed in so many hearts forever and ever..... We love you Kev! I remember when our oldest son,
Jonah, left Kentucky to go to college in Gainesville Florida. I really hoped he would make connections and find a close friend. God definitely answered that prayer with Kevin! Jonah and Kevin hit it off immediately and became the
best of friends. We had the pleasure of Kevin coming home with Jonah several times as well as joining us on a family vacation. Our favorite memories of Kevin was how he was a friend to all. Not only was he Jonah's friend, but he became very close with our other two sons, Micah and Jesse as well as our daughter-in-law, Lauren. Kevin would call or text me on my birthday and Mother's Day. He would even give me a
random FaceTime call or texts to check in on the family. I absolutely loved and adored that kid! He will forever hold a special place in all our hearts and will always be my favorite Bonus Kid. Much love K-Dog...momma Stroud
