Thomas Hassler Obituary

Naperville, IL - Thomas Eric Hassler, 67, passed away on December 10, 2023, after a debilitating illness of eight months. Tom was a 38-year resident of Naperville. Born on July 24, 1956, in Oak Park, IL, to Joseph and Betty Hassler, Tom touched the lives of many with his mischievous spirit and unwavering love for his family.

Tom's legacy lives on through his beloved wife Linda, their children Devin (Brian Kearley), Kendall (David Rynearson), Carson, Logan, and Jackson, as well as his brother Peter (Mary) Hassler. He was also a cherished uncle to Ethan and Morgan Navarrete, Janae, Jordan and Monica Burich, Joseph and Claire Hassler, and Ryley Burich.

Growing up in Elmhurst, Tom attended York High School, where he distinguished himself on the tennis team. His education continued at Northern Illinois University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and became a proud Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity member.

During his senior year at NIU, Tom met Linda while coaching her sorority, Kappa Delta, for a tug-of-war competition during Greek Week. Their story unfolded, leading to a joyous marriage in 1985. The couple settled in Naperville, creating a home for their children.

Tom was not just a father but a playful, kind, and patient guide through life's adventures. Although he loved reading and history, his interest in baseball and sports, in general, was contagious. Tom was passionate about baseball and played Chicago-style 16" softball with some of the area's finest players. He consistently donned baseball caps, unmistakably signaling his unwavering allegiance to the Chicago White Sox, and never failed to acknowledge fellow enthusiasts sporting similar attire. A devoted foster father, Tom extended his love and support to many children over the years. He exuberantly coached his children in soccer and baseball and loudly vocalized from the sidelines at events, including gymnastics, track, football, soccer, baseball, and swimming, showcasing his commitment to his children's well-rounded development.

In his professional journey, Tom made significant contributions to the realms of commercial real estate development and accounting. His career spanned organizations such as Urban Investment and Development Group, JMB Realty Corporation, Accenture, and Deloitte. Over the years, Tom extensively traveled for client-focused assignments, specializing in IT analysis, strategy, and management consulting. His latest role at Grant Thornton LLC showcased his prowess in cultivating strong client relationships.

The memories of Tom's deep, booming voice, vibrant spirit, gregarious nature, and gift of conversation will forever resonate in the hearts of his family and friends. A memorial Mass will be held at St. Elizabeth Seton Church in Naperville, IL, at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 10, 2024. Family visitation begins before the service at 10:00 a.m. in the church narthex. Interment will be private.

My condolences to Linda and the entire family. Tom and I have been friends since Fall of 1976 when he pledged the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. Although our careers kept our times challenged,we usually would reconnect at the Post Thanksgiving Pike Alumni Gathering at Thee Clubhouse in Oakbrook. We will always remember Tom´s Commanding Presence, his dry wit, and his infectious laugh, as well as his steadfast devotion to his family. The World is a little bit diminished and a little bit colder without him! Godspeed to All!

Tom was a colleague for many years and he made work fun. I greatly appreciated his passion for the WSox and was able to attend a few games with Tom. One game we had extra tickets and Tom brought two of his kids which was a treat. I will miss Tom greatly
