Alison "Sunny" Armstrong

Alison (Croft) "Sunny" Armstrong, of Naples, FL, passed away on Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at Asbury Place in Pittsburgh, PA. Known to her friends as "Sunny," she was born in Birmingham, AL to George Mason Croft of Aiken, SC and Thelma Callaway Croft, of Atlanta, GA. She lived in many areas of the country in her early years before being graduated from Chatham College in Pittsburgh, PA in 1942, where she was a member of Mortar Board. She enjoyed working in the Advertising Dept. at Westinghouse Electric Co., and in later years working for several doctors in the Pittsburgh area. She met and fell in love with Tom Armstrong during his years as a U.S. Army Paratrooper, and they were married in September, 1945 in Pittsburgh, PA. They retired in Naples, FL in 1990, dividing their time between their new city and their mountain lodge in Cook Forest, PA.
Sunny Armstrong was an active member of Vanderbilt Presbyterian Church of Naples, FL, where she served as a deacon and a commissioned Stephen Minister. She recently was honored as "Woman of the Year" for her dedicated work to her church.
Sunny was survived for a short time by her husband, Thomas Hunter Armstrong, who passed away December 25, 2016. She is also survived by her daughter, Alison Bryant, of Upper St. Clair; grandchildren, T. Hunter Armstrong III, of Naples, FL. Margaret "Maggie" MacKenzie Bryant, of Pittsburgh, Amanda Grier of Portland, OR, and Meredith Grier, of Los Angeles, CA. She was preceded in death by her son, Thomas H. Armstrong, II. In addition, Mrs. Armstrong is a member of the many branches of the Croft family of Aiken, SC, Atlanta, GA, Greenville, SC, and all points, east and west. She has strong connections with the Armstrong families of Pittsburgh, PA, as Tom was one of ten children in his family.
A Memorial Service celebrating the lives of Sunny and her husband Tom, will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the Vanderbilt Presbyterian Church, 1225 Piper Blvd., Naples, FL 34110, where the family will receive friends following the service.
