Charles McGinnis Obituary
Wilmington, DE
Charles Ronald "Ron" McGinnis, Sr. passed into the arms of our Blessed Mother and Her Son on June 19, 2016 at Compassionate Care in St. Francis Hospital.
Born in Baltimore, MD, in October of 1932 to Charles N. and Mildred (Geldmacher) McGinnis; the family moved to Middletown, DE when Ron was two. After graduating from Middletown High, Ron served 4 years in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict as a radar technician in Newfoundland.
Ron graduated from the University of Delaware in 1959 where he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha. He worked as a salesman for Monroe, and then for 10 years as a Major Account Representative for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of DE. Ron was Emergency Room Coordinator for the Wilmington Medical Center and became Hospital Director for 17 years at Governor Bacon Health Center in Delaware City, retiring in 1991.
Ron married Ann Mary Fiore Gaeta in 1957. They had two children, Cherri Ann Notarnicola and Charles R. McGinnis, Jr. and his wife Alison; 4 grandchildren, David Notarnicola, Michelle Holmes, and Jessica and Gregory Dugan; 2 great-grandchildren, Regina and Matthew Scannapieco; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Mildred Alderson.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 23rd from 6-8 pm at the McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803. A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held the following day, Friday, June 24th at 11 am at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 4701 Weldin Rd., Wilmington, DE 19803. Close friends and family are invited to the burial at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Rd., Bear, DE 19701 on Thursday, June 30th at 1 pm with military honors. There will be a luncheon after the burial.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made in Ron's name to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
