I went to High School with Homer. He was dedicated to Diana then and kept the same dedication for her and his family throughout his life. Our mothers had the same cancer operation on the same morning with the same doctor. From that morning I always felt a special bond with Homer. A couple of years ago my wife and I spent a day in Naples with Homer and Diana. At that time we were able to see Homer's good work with our Veterans. It was truly an eye opening experience. Homer was a Great American Patriot and wonderful friend of our Veterans. Homer is and will be missed. He was a friend and I am most proud to have known him.

My family and I send our sincerest condolences and prayers of healing to the entire Helter Family. I enjoy visiting his unique shop while vacationing in Naples visiting my Mother. Being from Virginia, he always kidded with me about where his Country Ham was !!!I know he had a huge heart for our Veterans as I do, and I know he will be missed. Homer Helter died Sunday, October 2,2016. His death will be felt by all of the veterans who had the great pleasure of knowing him, and being part of his huge circle of friends, and associates. Homer's Military Museum, on Shirley Street, was the unofficial meeting place for any veteran who served in any of the US Military Services. That welcome was extended to many who were not recognized until recently by the Federal Government and served our country nontheless.
Though not having served in the military himself, he was regarded by all the veterans who knew him as being worthy to be considered an honorary member of each of the services, be it Marines, Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Coast Guardsmen or women who served in all of the services. His friendship, patriotism and pride for all veterans was always present. The Military Museum at the Antique Store he owned always was open during business hours for any veteran, and had available his never empty coffee pot, or his never empty cold drink selection. There were all kinds of pastries, cakes, bagels, and other edibles available for the former and present military personnel who dropped in.
Homers name could more than likely appear on the roster of the many Veterans, Civil, Police, Fire and other organizations he supported. Many persons who preceded him to the great resting place, which is the final place we all go to, are waiting to greet him, and shake his hand and give him their thanks for all his selfless support. I and all who had the good fortune to know and meet with Homer send him home with a hearty SEMPER FI, and thanks for all you have done without the thought of reward.

I was fortunate to have known Homer and to have enjoyed his generosity many times. The many veterans who stop by for a cup of coffee, snack and even lunches always appreciated Homer's kindness. It was an honor to know him and Diana. They are very special Patriots.

I am so beyond proud to call this man my grandfather. I'm so blessed to have had someone like him be my role model and be such a huge part of my life. I will continue to make him proud, always. I cant thank him and my grandma enough for everything they have done for our family, the troops, and the people who were lucky enough to visit him at the store or Goldies. I love you so much and I cant wait to see you again some day.

love always,
Hannah Ciatto.

I met Homer through my dad, one of the many veterans who spent his time hanging round the store and enjoying the company of Homer and each other. He was a true gentleman and a real friend to the guys he hosted. I've heard many stories of the kindnesses he extended to my father, and others, including arranging for the "treats" my mother tried so hard to keep him from for his own good. He will be missed by both those who he interacted with directly and those of us who appreciated the things he did for those we loved.

From the first time I met Homer 14 years ago I was impressed by his unconditional love and support for veterans. He always had coffee and snacks and good words for the veterans who congregated around the table at his store. He is my friend and he will be missed.
